January 22, 2015 CN EcoConnexions 2130 Stella Ct Columbus, OH 43215 To Whom It May Concern: I am writing on behalf of SEMCOG, the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, to express our support for the City of Ferndale’s efforts in securing a CN EcoConnexions America In Bloom grant for improvements at Fair Park and the expansion to the nearby property. SEMCOG recognizes the importance of quality parks and greenspace in our communities and region. Improvements would be well-received at Fair Park and the adjacent property for residents of all ages and abilities. These improvements at such a beloved property would beautify the property and enhance the quality of life for city residents. SEMCOG strongly supports the proposed tree/flower plantings and addition of a community garden to Fair Park. These projects align with the regional policy recommendations and strategies of the Green Infrastructure Vision for Southeast Michigan. Parks are an important asset to and align with the collective vision for the City of Ferndale. Expansion of the region’s tree canopy is an identified goal of the Vision. This project not only moves the region closer to achieving our tree canopy goals, through the planting of trees and native plants, but also beautifies and improves the park while enhancing its long-term sustainability. SEMCOG is proud to back the improvements planned for Fair Park. We highly recommend CN EcoConnexions America In Bloom to support Ferndale with its grant. Sincerely,
Amy Mangus, Manager SEMCOG
