This festival was known in the past as the Harvest Festival. This year’s Fall Flower Festival will be November 1‐5, 2017, with workshops November 1‐3 taking place in the cathedral. This festival is a celebration of the vital role floral arrangements play in our worship services, and it is a celebration of the Feast of All Saints. Janet James, award winning floral designer from Sheffield, England, is our 2017 Presenter. She is a National Judge, National Association of Flower Arranging Societies (NAFAS) Demonstrator Adjudicator Instructor, NAFAS Westminster Abbey selected floral arranger, two years Ms. James will demonstrate 15‐18 designs of various sizes and materials, suitable for church and home. This year’s Fall Flower Festival also will be using an all‐new audio/visual system!
Fall Flower Festival Workshops Wednesday, November 1, 1:00‐3:30 pm Thursday, November 2, 6:30‐9:00 pm Friday, November 3, 9:30 am‐12:00 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, November 4‐5, Grace Church Cathedral will be open to the public and you and your friends to view Ms. James’ flowers as well as designs by the Grace Church Cathedral Flower Guild and other local Charleston churches. My Dear Friends, One is not surprised that Easter’s gift of resurrection begins in a place that often knows rebirth – a garden. Bringing that garden’s new life into our holy places is one way we celebrate God’s purpose to plant new life in all parts of our daily lives. Needless to say, Grace Church Cathedral is looking forward to November and the 2017 Fall Flower Festival! We are indeed fortunate to offer seminars on flower arranging conducted by Janet James from November 1-3. The public is invited to view the resulting arrangements beginning November 3, and the week’s events will conclude with our celebration of the Feast of All Saints on Sunday, November 5. Janet James 2017 Fall Flower Festival Demonstrator
The Flower Guild of Grace Church Cathedral is pleased to introduce our 2017 Fall Flower Festival demonstrator, Janet James, from Sheffield, United Kingdom. She has been a member of The Solihull Club in the South Midlands Area of NAFAS since 1978. She has served as the Past Chair and President, became an Associate of Honor in 2007, and currently is the Programme Secretary. She served as a National Judge at the NAFAS National Shows Edinburgh and Southport, Harrogate Spring and Autumn Shows, Malvern Spring and Autumn Shows, Belfast City Show, Bakewell, Southport, NAFAS Area Shows, and Hampton Court Palace. As National Demonstrator, a Past Chairman of the National Demonstrator Committee, Adjudicator, and Instructor, she has trained demonstrators and adjudicated in many NAFAS Areas, and NAFAS National Tests on four occasions, including Senior Adjudicator in 2012. She has demonstrated in all 21 Areas of NAFAS. Janet has competed for more than 30 years, winning numerous awards: Runner Up to Best in Show twice at National Show levels, and Best Use of Foliage Trophy four times. She is a member of the South Midlands Area Team with team leader John Chennell. They won the Gold Medal doing the main NAFAS stand at the Chelsea 2001 Show. Janet had arranged flowers for NAFAS in Westminster at Christmas time. She had the honor as an individual arranger at Westminster Abby at the NAFAS 50th Anniversary Flower event ‘Rejoice’. Janet’s ‘outside interests’ include art ‘in its many forms’, designing gardens at her new house, traveling, wining and dining, and serving as a member of the National Trust.
