field GENERAL The Premier Choice for your Perennial Ryegrass Needs THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA WILL BE BEHIND EVERY POUND OF FIELD GENERAL SOLD: • All varieties will always be on the current Virginia Crop Improvement Association list of approved varieties, except when they are not available due to crop failure. • All seed sold will be Blue Tag Certified. • We will pick the most attractive and toughest varieties available. Field General will be a persistent blend, and will not be recommended for overseeding in areas where you want the ryegrass to transition out. • Field General Blend is registered with the Commonwealth of Virginia as required by law, and all fees have been paid. Many competitors’ blends are not. A portion of the registration fee goes toward turf research in Virginia.
USE: Field General has been designed to be a versatile, sturdy turf suited for high wear, high use irrigated areas such as athletic fields and golf course fairways. Field General is dark green, fine textured, and germinates and establishes more rapidly than other cool season grasses. Due to its maintenance requirements and lack of drought tolerance, we do not recommend it for use in low maintenance areas.
ESTABLISHMENT: As a permanent turf, we recommend seeding rates of 7 to 10 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft. Due to its more persistent qualities, we do not recommend this blend for bermudagrass overseeding. Please ask about our Brigadier Blend or the Transitional Ryegrass Series Transist 2200 and 2400 for those applications. Use a 1-2-1 ratio starter fertilizer such as Southern Lawn brand 14-20-14. Provide at least 2 lbs. actual phosphorous per 1,000 sq. ft. If you have a soil test, apply nutrients accordingly. Adjust soil pH to 6.5. Apply straw, paper mulch, wood fiber mulch, or erosion blankets to prevent erosion and retain moisture. Ask your Landscape Supply sales representative for proper mulch rates. August and September are the best months for establishment. March and April would be second best months. Overseed existing stands at 3 to 5 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft. Kentucky Bluegrass may be blended with Field General for more persistent longterm stand, our Sports Turf Blend is ideal.
MAINTENANCE: Field General will tolerate mowing heights as low as 3/4 inch under ideal maintenance practices. A 2 to 3 inch cutting height is desirable. Ask your Landscape Supply, Inc. sales representative for a copy of your customized fertilizer and maintenance program.
