7-8 Boys Machine Pitch 2017 1. This year we will try to play with real baseballs instead of the rubber balls. 2. 3 outs or 8 runs scored will constitute the end of a team’s turn to bat. No more than 8 runs regardless. 3. Coaches need to agree on the loft and speed of the ball before the game. This is the responsibility of both coaches. Do not turn the machine up above 4 on the speed. 4. Each boy will get 5 pitches regardless of whether they swing or not. Batter will stay at bat if the fifth pitch is a foul ball. There is no limit on foul balls for a batter. The batter will be rewarded an extra pitch if the umpire determines that one of the pitches was unhittable (not a ball but unhittable). 5. Out fielders must stay in the grass while the batter is batting. No stacking the infield. If a game happens to be played on the south diamond the outfielder may come five feet in from the grass while the batter is up. Once the ball is in play they can go anywhere. 6. To control the skill level of the game, play can be stopped by holding up the ball above the players head once it is in the infield. A runner cannot advance any more bases, if they have already rounded the base they may advance to the next base. Once the ball is held up the ball is dead and no more play can happen regardless of the players reactions afterwards. The umpire will determine when the play is stopped and whether runners were advancing. 7. Games will be 1 hour long. 8. If a team is trailing in the last inning they may score unlimited runs. If the game is tied in the last inning then both teams can score unlimited runs. 9. There is no stealing, runs can only be scored on runners batted in. 10. If the ball is batted and hits the machine it is a deadball and the batter is rewarded advancement to first base. This counts as a base hit and all other player may advance one base. 11. A team must have 6 players to not forfeit. Said team must play a catcher, no option. 12. There is a zero tolerance policy in how umpires or staff is treated. 13. Any other rules not written out will follow standard baseball rules. If you feel something was forgotten or for any questions or concerns please call Matt Cutler 435-230-8907 or email [email protected] Coaches and parents: These kids are young and do not understand all the rules of the game. Please take this season to help them understand these rules. This is a developmental league and should be used to develop batting, fielding, and advantage. Meaning they may not understand to tag up on a fly ball. Or that they should throw it to second base on a force and they don’t need to tag the guy. I could go on forever with examples but the point is to help learn. The tournament at the end is a bonus to hopefully be rewarded for their hard work. Team 1—Anderson/R.Blue
