FINAL Westwood Lutheran Church Council Meeting January 17, 2017 Council members Present: Pastor Tania Haber, Karoline Pierson, Josh Edgar, Jim Vos, Nick Lovas, Kristi Taft, DaveRaatz, Nancy Cambronne, James Behnke Staff members present: Pastor Jason Van Hunnik, Kevin Farrar, Cindy Folin Year End Financial Report James Behnke James provided an overview of the General, WECC and Capital Funds for Year-End 2016. 2017 Staffing Plan Pastor Tania Haber/Jason Van Hunnik  Working on hiring Communications Director Discussion about hiring pastor- pulling together call committee  Question to consider: If we hire well, what will this church look like 3 years from now?  CYF staff: Hire in Apr/May- start in May/June- hope to hire someone who will complement Dannica’s and Jen’s skill sets. Special Ask Proposal Pastor Tania Haber/Jim Vos  Handout summary- A Special Ask will be held this spring which would be an “interim” initiative to fund a few particular items: o Finish the existing Mission Appeal o Fully cover the package for the new fulltime pastor- for part of 2017 and 2018 o Fund a plasma LED screen in the Sanctuary o Address a part of the “Commons project”- perhaps Westwood Room remodeling/technology. Motion to host special fundraising request by the end of 2017 for a new pastor, LED screen and completing the mission appeal. Motion was seconded and approved. Proposed 2017 Budget: Cindy Folin/James Behnke  Stewardship data was shared  General Fund  WECC Fund Key Assumptions  Capital Fund Highlights  Town Meeting and Annual Meeting overview Motion was made and seconded to recommend the 2017 budget to the congregation. FINAL Note that we will not be nominating members for WECC since it is no longer a board but an advisory council.  Tania provided the slate of nominees for Church Council,  Nominations team to be elected at the Annual Meeting. Sabbatical Update Pastor Jason Van Hunnik 1. Israel/Palestine: Early May 2. Family canoe/backpacking trip and Europe : May 22-July 30 Council Mentors/Orientation planning Karoline Pierson th Orientation Meeting: February 19 after Annual Meeting from 12-3 p.m.
