Emergency Preparedness Plan The crisis management plan is written and practiced strategy to ensure a safe campus for teaching and learning. The goals of this plan are to mitigate, respond, and recover from a crisis or other event.

Fire Alarm: 1.

2. 3. 4.

Upon activation of the fire alarm, the Teacher will immediately escort her students out and away from the building (as directed by the map posted in the classroom.) Upon arrival at the designated safe area the teacher shall account for all students by checking the enrollment forms found in their red safety back packs. The Teacher Assistant will go to the area indicated on the fire control panel. If a hazard is found, the Fire Department will be notified. (Call 911). For Fire/Evacuation a series of three long rings and two short rings will sound by the bell. When the “all clear” signal is given, students will return to their classes in a quiet and orderly manner.

The Teacher Assistant will check the bathrooms and scan the classroom and assist any children to a designated safe area.

Severe Weather / Tornado:

In the event the National Weather Service issues a tornado warning for Atoka/Johnson County, the Wapanucka Public School will announce the warning on the PA system followed by six blast of the bell. 1. The Teacher will get the red emergency back pack and escort her class to the room designated on the map. 2. Upon reaching the assigned location, teachers will have the students Form a turtle position when commanded. 3. Teachers will take roll. 4. Students will remain quiet and listen for directions. Students will not leave the building unless accompanied by a parent. 5. When the severe weather warning is cancelled, the Principal or Assistant Principal will give the “all clear” signal with a steady blast on the bell system for 5 seconds. The Principal will monitor radio and keep Teachers advised of the situation.

Teacher Assistant will check the bathrooms and assist any children to a designated safe area.

Secure in Place: A secure in place alert means there is a possible hostile related threat or other danger in the school. The secure in place alert will always be given orally in person or on the P.A. system. Teachers and T.A.’s responsibilities:

1. 2.

3. 4. 5. 6. 7.

Close your door and be sure it is locked. Assist your class to the safest area away from doors. Barricade the door with furniture if possible. Teacher Aide will close and lock all entrance doors and Teacher will check roll. If students are out of the room, do not go out and look for them. (Use common sense, if you see a child walking past your room; bring them into your room.) Do not go to the door to check anything unless told by a school official or Police officer. Maintain silence during the Secure in Place. If in an open area, go to nearest classroom quietly and quickly. If in the cafeteria or library, the Secure in Place procedures remain the same. Doors shall be locked; students will take cover under the tables in turtle position. If in the outdoor learning center go to gym. If it is not safe to go to the gym, take cover in turtle position.

Crisis Leaders: Teacher Teacher Aide Ambulance: 911 Police Officer: 911 or 580-371-2691 Once Police advise that the threat has ceased Crisis leader will announce “All Clear” orally in person or on the P.A. system. Loss of Electric or Gas Utilities: Wapanucka Public School will appoint a staff member to contact the local utility company and try to ascertain the length of the utility failure. If it is determined the failure is within the school facility they will notify the INCA Head Start and the Teacher will notify the Head Start Director. 1. 2. 3.

All classrooms will be equipped with a flashlight. Flashlights should be checked on a regular basis to insure they are in working condition. Students should be kept quiet and calm.
