Fire-rated Shallow and Deep Backcans

The Shallow and Deep Fire-rated Metal Backcans are one component in a system that has been certified by Intertek. These new multi-model Backcans replace all the olderstyle, model-specific backcans. The complete system is comprised of: 1. An ‘Intertek-Listed’ Sonance Fire-Rated Metal Backcan 2. A Sonance Flex Bracket (available separately) 3. A Sonance speaker (or a Sonance metal coverplate to protect the exposed opening) The Shallow and Deep Fire-rated backcans must be used with a Sonance Flex Bracket that matches the Sonance speaker being specified. The Flex Bracket allows the speaker to be centered in the Backcan, ensures a proper cut-out and provides increased drywall support in the event of a fire. The Fire-rated Deep Backcan (92808) has been approved for ceilings and the Fire-rated Shallow Backcan (92807) for walls. Each Backcan is only fire-rated when used in its intended application. For example, the Shallow Backcan will only meet fire-code when used in a wall, not a ceiling. Most Sonance speakers designed for multi-room audio are compatible with the new backcans. The sole exception is the large, rectangle speakers, including those in the Original and Visual Performance Series. Sonance does not offer a fire-rated Backcan for this size and shape speaker.
