06186 Fire Building (New) Three Chopt
NW Fire Station #19 Construction 1 2010 GO Bonds - Gen Gov't - 2005
Description and Scope This is a project approved by the voters in the March 2005 G.O. Bond Referendum. This request is to construct a new fire station on five acres of land in the Northwest area of the County. The 10,625 square foot fire station would be designed to house one engine company, one truck company, and one advanced life support ambulance. The facility would be a three bay drive-through type station, with modern operational and administrative amenities. In FY2008-09, a total of $400,000 was appropriated for the planning and design associated with the project.
Purpose and Need The Division predicts approximately 100 calls per 1,000 population added to an area. It is estimated that the Northwest station would respond to nearly 1,670 calls for services upon completion. The estimates are based on the Director of Planning’s May 12, 2003 forecast for the Northwest area of the County that anticipates population increases of up to 16,787 additional citizens bringing the overall population to 27,387. History and Current Status A revised cost estimate is submitted for information purposes only, however the actual project submission adheres to totals approved in the March 2005 G.O. Bond Referendum. Revised Cost Breakdown - Total Cost=$13,804,456. Offsite Improvements & Utilities = $6,237,720, Construction = $4,640,804, Equipment=$2,288,133 and other=$637,799 (Includes construction contingency=$464,080.) Fire Station #6 - Land Purchase 5 2010 General Fund
Description and Scope This request is to purchase approximately five acres that would be utilized for the relocation of Fire Station #6 within its current response area. In planning for the future growth of the Division, the relocation of the fire station to a larger site is necessary. The standard size of new stations being built is approximately 13,350 square feet. The building would include drive-through capability, an additional bay for more apparatus, and improved living conditions. The existing Fire Station #6, which is 5,866, was constructed in the mid 1960's. The estimated costs to update the existing structure to comply with current ADA requirements, fire protection and building code regulation as well as provide the desired space make renovation unfeasible and not cost effective. Purpose and Need The site of the present structure provides inadequate space for the future needs of the station. Additionally, the current site has problems due to drainage issues. The station does not have drive through bays and fire apparatus must be moved each time an ambulance response is received. History and Current Status A revised cost estimate is submitted which includes no anticipated increase in the cost per acre.
Location The current fire station is located at 4600 S. Laburnum Avenue. The proposed location is to be determined. Capital Expenditures

A recycling station and a police field office will also be included in this project. Purpose and Need The need for a new site is based on the restrictions at the current site of Fire Station #11. The current location is surrounded by residential properties, and there may be conflicts with parking and the public assessing the recycling bins. The current lot size may not support the new prototype station. The current station is 4,500 square feet. History and Current Status This is the first year of submission for this project, and the need and scope of the project has been determined by the Division of Fire's Facilities Assessment and Future Requirements study by Pacheco Ross Architects, P. C., which was completed in September, 2008. Location At or near the current fire station location at 1754 Hungary Road. Capital Expenditures

Fire Station #4 - Land Purchase 1 2012 General Fund
Description and Scope This project is for the purchase of five acres of land to rebuild Fire Station #4. The new site should be at or near the current location at 8112 Strath Road in the Varina District. The facility would consist of a one-story 13,350 square foot brick and block building with operational administrative space, apparatus bays, access road and parking lot sufficient to accommodate a shift change and a recycling facility without adversely affecting the surrounding land uses. The station would house a single engine company, ambulance, and potentially a ladder company or squad utilizing three drive-through bays. Purpose and Need This project has been recommended in the Division's Facilities Assessessment and Future Requirements study. The recommendation is to either renovate the existing bulding by adding an additional bay area, expand the office and living spaces or replace the station with the threebay prototype. Renovation of the current station will require the purchase of adjoing land. The current station is 4,500 square feet. History and Current Status This is the first year of submission for this project, and the need and scope of the project has been determined by the Division of Fire's Facilities Assessment and Future Requirements study by Pacheco Ross Architects, P. NW Fire Station #24 - Land Purchase 2 2014 General Fund
Description and Scope This request is to purchase approximately five acres for a new fire station in the West/Northwest area of the County. This site would be used to add an additional fire station in this densely populated, heavily urbanized area of the County. The Northwest service area has the potential to generate an additional 6,346 to 7,146 residential units for a total of 10,950 to 11,750 units. In terms of population increase, this equals an estimated 14,902 to 16,787 additional citizens in an area already densely populated. These population predictions do not include the population that will be working, shopping and dining in these urbanized areas of the County. Purpose and Need Past estimates show that this growth will occur in a twelve to twenty year period, however, with the opening of Route 288, the Short Pump Town Center, West Broad Village, various Broad Street Corridor UMU developments, and the expansive growth in the Twin Hickory Area (Park, Library, Schools), the Division is projecting additional service delivery needs in this area. History and Current Status This is the third year that this project has been submitted, and the need and scope of the project has been determined by the Division of Fire's Facilities Assessment and Future Requirements study by Pacheco Ross Architects, P. C., which was completed in September, 2008. The revised estimate projects no increase in the per acre cost of $220,000 for the requested service area.
