Make It Fun Prepare to offer the following activity as your 2-3 year-olds arrive. Let one or two teachers lead small groups of children in activities throughout the room while another teacher greets parents and kids at the door. At this age not all children will participate, but most will want to be part of the fun. 1. Friendship “Friendship” is an activity that introduces this week’s Bible story while children pair up to look through books about friendship. What You Need: Children’s books about friendship You can find book suggestions on the May 2016 Pinterest board found on the First Look Curriculum’s Pinterest page: https://www.pinterest.com/firstlookcurr/ What You Do: Before the Activity: Make a special reading area, or stand books up on a table. During the Activity: Have kids look at the books and talk about them. Pair the kids up as book buddies. Swap books a few times. After the Activity: Introduce the Bible story. What You Say: Before the Activity: “We have some new books to look at today! They are all about friendship!” During the Activity: “Sit down with me, book buddies! You two share this book, and you two share this one. (Continue handing out books.) What do you see in your book?

(Pause.) How are they being friends? (Pause.) That’s neat. What about your book? (Pause.) How are the people in your book being friends? (Pause.) Let’s look at this book together. (Read a book aloud and encourage kids to point out acts of friendship.) When you see something in the book that shows friendship, raise your hand.” (Repeat as many times as desired.) After the Activity: “That was a lot of fun being book buddies and reading about friendship. That’s what our Bible story is about today: friendship! I can’t wait to hear all about the friends in our story today!”
Make It Stick Do the following activities to help make the Bottom Line stick. Lead the activities with small groups of children. Encourage children to play on their own if they do not wish to take part in an activity.

They can help (pound one fist on top of the other) each other (touch the person next to you on the shoulder) in everything they do’ (raise your hands overhead and jump up), Ecclesiastes 4:9. What You Need: “Friends” from the Activity Pages found on the Website, white cardstock, dot markers, scissors, and a permanent pen What You Do: Before the Activity: Copy “Friends” on cardstock, one copy per two kids. Do not cut the pages apart. Pair up the kids and give each pair a page and some dot markers. During the Activity: Talk about the Bible story as the pairs work to cover their paper with dot markers. Write children’s name on the blanks on both sides and cut apart. Set the pages aside to dry. After the Activity: Say the Bottom Line together. You can see a sample of this craft on the May 2016 Pinterest board found on the First Look Curriculum’s Pinterest page. https://www.pinterest.com/firstlookcurr/ What You Say: Before the Activity: “In our Bible story we heard a story about friendship. You are going to make a together picture. You two, you two, and you two are going to make a pretty picture by using these dot markers on your paper.” During the Activity: “We learned about David and Jonathan. They were really good friends. Jonathan was the king’s son. And David worked for King Saul and his family. They ate together and had fun together. When Jonathan would tell David something important, he knew that David wouldn’t tell anyone else. They truly were best buds. They shared everything. David loved Jonathan. And Jonathan loved David. They both wanted to honor God and they knew that God had given them each other as friends. Start dabbing your paper with the markers. (Pause.) Now switch markers. (Pause.) Look how nice your picture is! Now I’ll write your name on your paper and cut it in half and you each have a part of your art!” (Write one child’s name in first blank and the other in the second blank and then flip the names in the other blanks. Cut apart and set aside.) After the Activity: “You really made some beautiful pictures by working together! David and Jonathan were good friends and worked together and helped each other out. God gives us good friends too. Who gives you good friends? [Bottom Line] God gives me good friends.”
