THE GAME: Florence opens the 2015 season Friday, August 21, at Braly Stadium against Shades Valley. This will be the second consecutive season that the two teams have faced each other in the season opener. SERIES HISTORY: This will be the third overall meeting between Florence and Shades Valley. The all-time series is tied 1-1. Shades Valley defeated Florence 37-35 in the 2014 season opener. Florence avenged its season opening loss with a 43-21 victory over Shades Valley in the second round of the 2014 AHSAA playoffs. RECENT SUCCESS: Florence won a school record 11 games in 2014. The Falcons won the Region 8 championship and advanced to the state semi-finals for the first time in school history. Florence has won 20 games over the last two seasons which is the best two year stretch in school history. A school record fifteen seniors signed scholarships to play college football on Signing Day 2015. ELITE COMPANY: Florence is one of only four schools in Alabama to win 20 games over the past two years while competing at the 6A level or higher in each season. (Hoover-27, ClayChalkville-25, Florence-20, Fairhope-20) COACH J.B. WALLACE: J.B. Wallace is entering his second season as head coach of the Florence Falcons. Wallace completed the 2014 campaign with the highest first year win percentage by a football coach in school history (.785). Under Coach Wallace, Florence has won 3 playoff games, equaling the total number of playoff games won in the ten seasons prior to Wallace’s tenure. SHADES VALLEY: Shades Valley is coming off a 9-3 season that ended in the 2nd round of the AHSAA playoff with a 43-21 loss to Florence. The Mounties finished 2nd in region 6 behind state champions, Clay-Chalkville. Shades Valley is replacing two All-State players, Daron Payne (Alabama) and Keith Mixon (Mississippi State), who are now playing in the SEC. David Partridge is entering his first season as the head coach at Shades Valley. He previously served as the defensive coordinator at Hewitt-Trussville.
