Get To Know Us! F.L.U.S.H.™ stands for Friends Living Under Serious Hardships. As a recognized student improvisational theater troupe around campus, the members have devoted their efforts toward producing performances as a means to present critical social issues students face, to utilize peer influence as a positive form of participative education, to contribute to the self-awareness of its members and audiences, to provide a format for students’ introspective reflection and interpersonal problem-solving, to advance ideals of cultural understanding and also the acceptance of diverse people on and off campus. As a main focus the group supports preventive education and research for a cure to the HIV virus, which can lead to AIDS. Membership is composed of students, alumni, and honorary members. The performance takes place in the residence halls, every Wednesday night starting at 9 p.m. The program is a running unscripted series that follows the lives of fictional characters at PUI, a parody of IUP. Performances occur at IUP’s main campus throughout the semester, with one special production for Punxsutawney. Occassionaly the Punxsutawney show has occured in both fall and spring semesters. Also, while raising awareness of HIV/ AIDS and other social issues that students are currently focusing on, Friends. Living. Under. Serious. Hardships.™ tries to raise funds for their current philanthropy, the Pittsburgh Aids Task Force.

F.L.U.S.H.™ Friends Living Under Serious Hardships™ Established 1996
Under Construction Founded on Sept. 8, 1996, the primary focus of the group was to raise HIV/AIDS awareness; however, at the end of the spring 2011 semester, the remaining F.L.U.S.H.™ members decided to reconstruct the group. Taking a semester off from performing, the group is currently working on revamping the group and updating the show. F.L.U.S.H.™ holds auditions twice a year: once in the fall and once again during the spring semester. There is a $20 dollar membership for newcomers and a $10 membership fee for returning cast members. Joining F.L.U.S.H.™ is a chance to work on community service through improvisation and a way of mentoring to your fellow peers while having fun and entertaining others. A predominately female group, F.L.U.S.H.™ is always looking for talented male cast members.

Since its start, F.L.U.S.H.™ has made several contributions to the organization, holding a large fundraiser in the spring known as Cabaret; a talent showcase put on by students. All the funds raised go to PATF.
Pittsburgh Aids Task Force Founded in 1985, a group of dedicated volunteers formed the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force (PATF) in response to a cry from those infected with HIV/AIDS for compassion, supportive services, and information about the life threatening disease. PATF’s services now include case management, anonymous HIV testing and counseling, a food pantry, a Speakers Bureau, transportation, emergency fund assistance, transitional and permanent housing, and prevention and educational outreach. Currently in its third decade of service, PATF has progressed from an agency that helped people with AIDS to die with dignity into an
