Donny Emmons, Pastor

First Baptist Church, Dexter From Lyle – Your BSU Director Well all, it’s that time of year again; you know - red hearts, pink roses, balloons, cards, candy, and stuffed animals that sing songs of love (that annoying gorilla singing Love Me Tender – btw I got one once). The day after New Year's stores start stocking their shelves getting ready for Valentine’s Day. Factoid – more roses are sold on Valentine’s Day than any other day of the year? LOVE… a four-letter word that I always had issues with because I thought who would love me for me. Then one day I discovered what love is… God. God is love (1 John 4:8) and He loves us (John 3:16). However, the verse that transformed my life those many years ago is, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).” So when you go out to get that special someone that annoying gorilla, remember who truly loves you… God. Things you might like to know @ the BSU: Bible Study & a Sandwich kicks off in February. This semester we will study different topics from the book, Celebration of Disciplines by Richard Foster. Some of those topics include: journaling, prayer, solitude, service and many more. I am in the process of creating a Spring Break Mission Experience for our students. This experience will take place March 8-14, 2015 in St. Louis, MO. While there we will serve with some of the community agencies such as food pantries, children community centers, homeless shelters, etc. Please be in prayer for me as I work on all the logistics (travel, lodging, expenses, etc.). If you are willing to help support this effort financially… I will be sending out an email within the next week or two giving you all the details. Prayers & Blessings to you all.
