PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES GES will hold parent teacher conferences on Thursday, February 5 (4:00-8:00) and Tuesday, February 10, (4:00-8:00). Mid-quarter progress will be discussed. Parent Teacher conference notes went home in last week’s parent packets. If you cannot attend at the time shown (or are unsure of your time), please call 448-3177 to reschedule. NO SCHOOL ON FEBRUARY 13 AND 16 USD #365 schools will not be in session on Friday, February 13, and Monday, February 16. No school employees will be working Friday, February 13. Staff development meetings are planned for district employees on Monday, February 16. VALENTINE PARTIES Classroom Valentines Day parties are scheduled for Thursday, February 12, beginning after 2:00 p.m. If you are a Valentine Party room parent, contact your child’s teacher regarding party plans. ROUNDING UP KINDERGARTNERS Plans are being made for our spring kindergarten roundup to be held at GES on Wednesday, March 25, from 12:30-6:30 p.m. Children who turn 5 on or before August 31, 2015, are eligible to attend school next fall. To make an appointment or to get more information, call Mrs. Suderman at 4483177. Spread the word to family, friends, and neighbors!

PTO TACO DINNER FEB. 13 Make plans for your family to attend the PTO Fundraiser Dinner & Basket Auction on Friday, February 13. It will be held in the ACJSHS commons from 5:00-7:00 during the high school basketball games. Thanks so much for your donations of $$, chips, desserts, basket items and to those who have volunteered to work. Plan to bring your family to eat some tasty tacos and enjoy the ballgames. Stop by to place a bid on one (or more) of the creative baskets. BAD WEATHER PLAN Remember: There are a variety of ways to find out about school closings: •Check our website for school cancellation notifications at www.usd365.org. •Major radio and tv stations will be alerted as early as possible concerning school closings. This decision will usually be made by 6:30 a.m. In some instances it may be made by 10:00 p.m. the night before. •Automated school closing calls will also be made through the USD #365 School Reach Program. Be sure the school has current phone numbers. You may contact Lynnette in the office if you have questions about School Reach. SPELLING BEE Beau Dykes and Avery Sumner represented GES well in the Anderson County Spelling Bee on January 30. CONGRATULATIONS to our own Beau Dykes (Champion) and Molly Comfort (Runnerup) from Westphalia who will be representing Anderson County in the regional bee in Topeka later this spring. Best of Luck!

HEALTH HEADLINES Flu Season A variety of illnesses have recently been reported at GES. Remember to have children wash hands, get plenty of rest, and eat nutritious meals. Students should be fever and symptom free for 24 hours (noncontagious) before returning to school. Please contact the school office by 9:00 a.m. at 448-3177 if your child is staying home due to illness. PTO NEWS •PTO TACO FUNDRAISER DINNER – February 13, PTO will serve a Taco Dinner in the ACJSHS commons. A silent auction for themed baskets will be held in conjunction with the dinner. This will be the main fundraiser for PTO this schoolyear. •FOLKLORE ADVENTURES – PTO is sponsoring the all school assembly, Folklore Adventures, on Tuesday, February 17, at 2:00. •ART FAIR -- PTO is in the early stages of planning an exciting, new event to be held this spring, a GES Student Art Fair. Look for more details in next month’s newsletter. •YEARBOOK DEADLINE – The deadline for ordering 2014-15 yearbooks is Friday, February 27.

SPRING TESTING Beginning in March, GES students in grades 3-6 will be participating in a variety of assessment tests. As always, be sure your child is in attendance as much as possible, eats nutritiously, and gets a good night’s sleep. We want our Bullpups to perform to the best of their abilities.
