FOOD ALLERGIES August 31, 2015

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, The purpose of this letter is to share important information with you regarding a very serious topic at St. Peter’s and all schools, food allergies. Like most schools, we have numerous students with significant food allergies. In fact, in the past, we have had to call paramedics to help assist students who have had severe allergic reactions to various foods. To help keep our students safe, the following actions will be taken: Separate Nut-free Cafeteria Table One table in the cafeteria will be designated as completely nut free 100% of the time. Students with significant nut allergies will be allowed to sit at this table along with friends who do not have food with nuts in it. Nut-free Classrooms Nuts of any kind may not be brought into the classroom for snacks or treats. I know that this may disappoint some students, but for the safety of those with significant nut allergies, this mandate must be followed. Snack Clarification Individual homeroom teachers have been empowered to allow or not allow snacks during the day. The largest factor in this determination is simply the lunch schedule. Students eating an early lunch most likely do not need a morning snack. Students eating a late lunch may need or desire a morning snack. Again, snack time is ultimately a decision made by individual homeroom teachers. If snacks are allowed, snacks are limited to the following:     

Fresh Fruit (without dipping sauce) Fresh Vegetable (without dipping sauce) Cheese Stick Meat Stick Applesauce

Please know that a nutritious breakfast is also available for students who arrive to school early. Please do not hesitate to use this valuable service. Thank you for your support of our effort to keep our students safe. If you have any specific questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 812-372-5266 x2155 or our school nurse, Mandy Baker, at 812-372-5266 x2312. Peace in Christ,

Scott Schumacher Phil. 4:13
