[email protected] Critical capacity issue leads to Jurassic Bark adoption event at Great Plains SPCA In an attempt to alleviate the critical capacity issue Great Plains SPCA is currently facing, the No Kill animal shelter announces the Jurassic Bark adoption special this Wednesday through Sunday at their locations in Merriam, KS and Independence, MO. Adoption fees are discounted to $50 for adult dogs, $25 for adult cats and a two-for-one special on kittens. Great Plains SPCA currently has 1,071 pets in its care between two campuses in Merriam, KS and Independence, MO. Almost half of these pets are in foster homes, waiting for space in the shelter or for adoptive homes. When capacity numbers reach such a high level, shelter pets and the people who work with them begin to experience a higher level of stress. Although the Great Plains SPCA staff and volunteers are trained to reduce shelter stress, the best solution is to get pets out of the shelter and into forever homes as soon as possible. Jurassic Bark, a play on the newly released movie, Jurassic World, hopes to empty the shelters at Great Plains SPCA and place pets into loving families. Beginning on Wednesday morning and running through Sunday evening at both campuses, adoption fees will be $50 for adult dogs, $25 for adult cats, and twofor-one for kittens. This special excludes high profile pets and puppies. Those who are unable to adopt are asked to donate desperately needed supplies via Great Plains SPCA’s Amazon wish lists to help with the unusually high number of animals. Great Plains SPCA has two Pet Adoption Centers: 5424 Antioch Drive, Merriam, KS 66202 and 21001 East 78 Highway, Independence, MO 64057.
