IDEA: Now I Understand CAMERA: Lush cinematography, each era shot to look like a film from that era. TONE: Sweet and nostalgic, fun, stylish
A nostalgic, Wonder Years-like voiceover walks us through the story of a man and his bike, charting their adventures over many decades. As the man ages through each era, his bike stays pristine. Each segment features iconic period wardrobe and set dressing. We start in the 1960s: “My First Bike.” The boy receives the bike and his father teaches him to ride. He bikes out of the 60s and into: the 1970s, “My First Job.” He’s a paperboy, chased by a dog. 1980s, “My First Girlfriend.” She rides on the handlebars. 1990s, “My First House.” He and the girlfriend create a space for the bike in the garage. 2000s: “My First Kid…” He adds a baby seat to the back of the bike. And then 2013: “His First Bike.” Mirror the first shot as he teaches his own kid to ride. End with VO: “How is it that I aged while my bike looks the same?” We flash back to the 1960s, where he and his Dad apply Rustoleum to the brand new bike. “I used Rustoleum.”
