FOREIGN RIGHTS SPRING 2018

You will see FRÉDÉRIQUE BERTRAND 2 years + 17 x 22 - 40 pages - hardback with rounded corners 14,50 e

A pair of big, eager eyes fill the double-pages, looking right, in the direction of reading. Towards the future. Look closely and you will understand that life is synonymous with choices to be made, preferences and personal tastes. You will see questions the child’s future and everything that will contribute to his growth, what he will become, his personality and finally his freedom of being. Joyful illustrations abound in this picture book. The reader will have fun finding the black, round pupils throughout the pages.

SO COOL FRED FIVAZ 4 years + 18,5 x 24,5 - 32 pages - hardback 15 e

Lia DANIELA TIENI 3 years + 19 x 25,5 - 32 pages - hardback 13 e

TIME-S HENRI MEUNIER & AURORE PETIT 4 years + 19 x 25 - 32 pages - hardback 14 e

Lia is an inquisitive child. Fruits, their characteristics and their shape help her wonder about herself and dream of being different. All these types of fruit have advantages and disadvantages: see this blueberry, excellent for one’s sight but so tiny no one notices it? Lia-blueberry ends up losing sight of herself and getting lost in a sea of uncertainties until a motherly strawberry brings her back to her sweet reality. As it should be.

Times, plural, as if it were multiple. Henri Meunier multiplies the abstract notion of time into a thousand facets, a thousand ways to appreciate and perceive it, all through a single image : that of a little boy sitting on a dock and dropping a stone in the water. It could last less than a second, an eternity, or the time to read the book. The child sits still, indifferent to what is going on around him, to the changes brought by the passing of time around him : insects and animals, flowers and trees, people and constructions but also the weather and the seasons. Everything changes quickly, everything has its own rhythm. The child, on the other hand, remains still, contemplating the fall of the stone as he awaits the final ‘plonk’ that will end the book: the time of the reader.

Charles is obviously an extraordinary child. He is about to take a nap when he suddenly feels like going canoeing. Or is it ice-cream he wants? Charles eventually goes back to what he first wished for: a nap. As soon as he lies down, a new urge comes up. Fred Fivaz’s first album questions childhood and its many temptations, drawing us into the daily life of an hyperactive Charles, similar to many children that are often tempted and don’t necessarily go all the way.

Following graduation, Elfie finds a summer job as a cashier in a oceanographic park. When she is offered a position as an animal carer, she decides to drop university. She is convinced she shares a special relationship with the killer whale but, while telling us of her apprenticeship, another voice alternating with her own angrily relates what goes on behind the scenes : these shows are synonymous with suffering for the animals that are kept captive, harshly trained and under-fed. Titan is very similar to the infamous and real killer whale known as Tilikum, who was involved in the death of several people... From the true story of Tilikum, Florence Aubry draws a deeply moving story on the animal condition and adds her voice to the current movement to shut down animal theme parks.
