Mrs C Ward Well Done! Thank you for all your support with our fundraising appeals Mayor’s Charity £ Children in Need £255.00 Xmas Fayre £ The Children took part in Children in Need day by dressing up in brightly coloured clothes this raised £255.00 Town Hall Visit

On Wednesday 20th November year 5RW went to the Town Hall to present the money we had raised during our sponsored walk. When we arrived we walked up these huge stone steps outside of the hall. We entered the Town Hall and walked up the stairs to the recep.on room. We waited for about 5 minutes un.l the Mayor and Mayoress came. We were taken on a tour around the hall and on the stair case we had our photograph taken with the Mayor, the Mayoress and the cheque. A2er that, we went into the council chamber where we got to ask some ques.ons about the Town Hall. When we were finished in the council chamber we all got a turn to sit in the Mayors chair. We went into this guest room to sign our names into this register book but I went into this other room, here, the mayor put on his gown and cloak called the Mayors robe and hat, and introduced me as Mayor Sharna it was so embarrassing, I felt like a penguin with about 20 coats of feathers. Then we all sat down to get a drink and some biscuits, from here, we went back into the recep.on room the mayor thanked us for our dona.on and he each gave us a bar of rock. It was a very interes.ng day. Sharna

On the 14th of November an Author came into our school his name is Tom Banks. He read two stories to us, the first was called The Great Galloon, there was really strange characters. Then he read part two, Voyage to the Volcano. They were really good. There were goodnight points instead of chapters and whenever he said goodnight we pretended to go to sleep. He picked a few people to go to the front and act out some of the story and they had to mime the words and do facial expressions, it was really funny. He made up some of the words in the book. Ormeby Hall On Tuesday the 5th off November Y5 went to Ormesby Hall in Middlesbrough to learn about the Victorians. It took us 40 minutes to get there I was thrilled we were going on our first trip. On the bus me and Maddy played rock paper scissors. Before too long we arrived, we met a lady called Leah-Ann she told us some facts about the owners who lived there as they were all called James. Then we headed off to the laundry room. We took our coats, bags and put them under the table also got changed into Victorian servant. I wore a pinafore. A2er we split up into 4 groups, I was in Mrs Wilkinson’s group. A2er that my group headed off to the laundry room and we met the laundry maid. Her job wasn’t important but it was hard work! In the Victorian .mes they earned 35p a week and £13 a year. First my group got a piece of clothing with a stain on it we got a brush and cold water and rubbed the stain off. I couldn’t believe that it came off. A2er we had to wash it with soap so we put it in the pot and grated soap on it with a soap grater. We got a s.ck it was called a Dolly because it had a dolly face on it, it was freaky! We had to twist and pull to clean it. Minutes later, we went to the kitchen and we met the cook she told us lots of facts. In the Victorian .mes they didn’t have freezers like we do now to keep their food fresh so they kept everything in salt, it was disgus.ng! They also locked their spices away and the tea because in the Victorian .mes tea and spices were very expensive. Their cooked their toast on a big fork, Aliyah and Ellie had a go of puDng pasta onto scales. During the day we went to the upstairs room in the mansion, the mansion was gigan.c! I was holding the suitcase, I put it outside one of the doors. Then we went into the room through the servant’s door because were are servants for the day. Behind the door was a dressing room where the family got dressed. There was a gorgeous mirror with paEern around the outside and there was a lovely wardrobe with a beau.ful curtain with a preEy paEern on. In the room they were a door and behind the door was another door and behind that door was an awesome bed room. It had a large bed with amazing curtains which went around the bed it had a beau.ful desk to write leEers in the room on as well. The last room was the Butler’s room he was in charge of all the servants and in charge of all the wine that was in the wine cellar. And he had to make sure the newspaper wasn’t creased and if it was he had to iron it very carefully and that he didn’t smudge the wri.ng because it was ink. He also had to make sure that all the tables were set out neatly and that the knives and forks were neatly in the correct order. So me and Aliyah paired up and had ago of doing it. A2er it was lunch .me I was starving a2er all that hard work! My lunch was delicious, a2er we finished we split up into 2 groups. My group went to the mansion and the other group went to play with the toys. So we headed off to the mansion. We had to count haw many lion heads they were. There were 6 a2er we went to play with the Victorian toys I built a town it was so fun. Later it was home .me; I was sad because I enjoyed learning about the Victorians so we got our bags and coats and gave the staff a big thank you. By Kara

Fire staon Firstly we had to walk to the Fire sta.on Then we had a liEle mee.ng in a room about what we were going to do there. A2er that a man who worked there took us to the caravan and it was good but there was a man that made a fake burn on his arm and it looked real he told us how to treat a burn. Next we went into the hall and someone gave us glasses that made us know how it feels to be drunk it was quite scary because it feels like your going to fall over. Then we went to the electric circuit to see the dangers of going onto and climbing things that contain electricity. By Amelia & Lauren, Year 6

Our trip to Newcastle University On Thursday 12th September, year 6 visited Newcastle University for Bri.sh science week 2013.We got separated into 2 groups, the groups did different ac.vi.es and it was fun! First, our group had to make space landers out of different materials, we were put into 4 different groups of 3 or 4, we were put in a group of 3 with Demmi and our lander failed so badly as the egg called umi zumi crash landed tragically and she cracked her skull, she probably died. Then we had lunch altogether, it was yummy. The next thing we did was go into the theatre and watch a show called Super Hero Science. It was a magic show about super heroes and science behind it all. Then we went to another show called The Fire Show. It was about the fire triangle and the different types of fire you could see. Then we went to Polar Science where we did a quiz if the animal lived in the North or South Pole or both. Then, a2er that, we found out about the seal’s and their blubber and then we had to make gloves out of plas.c bags and lard which was horrible. Abigail’s face was hilarious. Then we stuck our hands in ice and water and the gloves were the best. We then answered ques.ons about the Polar Regions. That was the end of our day at Newcastle University. On Tuesday we went to Ormesby Hall in Middlesbrough. We have been studying about the Victorians. We travelled by coach and I was with Sharna. We had a good chat on the bus it was great fun! I was feeling apprehensive as I had never been before. Soon as we arrived we were taken to the laundry room to get changed. I got changed into a Victorian maid ouIit. It was a white pinafore with a matching bonnet. The boys were dressed in different coloured shirts. We all looked like real servants. Next we were taken to the cold room this is where they stored all there fruit and vegetables it was dark and cold I was freezing! I was shivering with the cold. Then a maid called Leanne showed us around all the rooms there were secret doors in the walls on the gallery. The bathroom doors were made from oak they were so beau.ful I was gobsmacked. A2er that we went for our lunch in the dining room. We all took our own packed lunch. Then half of the class went for our lunch in the dining room. We all took our own packed lunch. Soon half of the class went to have a look at the mansion and the rest of us went to play with the Victorian toys I played chess with Billy. Inside the mansion there was a pain.ng that had an outline of an old lady I thought it was weird because you could only see it in a certain place. Finally we were on the bus going home and it was a great day because I got to see the Penny men house it was really good. Miya
