Foundations of Faith Community Nursing Caring for the Body, Mind & Spirit 10 Internet Sessions on Monday evenings February 10 – April 28, 2014 ~ 6:30-8:30pm Retreat in Cheyenne, WY May 1- 3, 2014 WHAT IS FAITH COMMUNITY NURSING? A Faith Community Nurse also known as a Parish Nurse serves within a faith community to help meet the mental, emotional, physical, social and spiritual needs of its members. A Faith Community Nurse (FCN) may serve as a paid or unpaid member of church staff working within the congregation to establish and sustain a health ministry program. Faith Community Nursing is recognized by the ANA as a specialty practice of professional nursing. With the intentional focus of spiritual health, a FCN uses the nursing interventions of education, counseling, advocacy, referral, resources and volunteers to provide health promotion and education, disease prevention, and wholistic health of the body, mind and spirit to their faith community or nursing practice. This is a continuing education course for nurses with an active RN license. Class size is limited to 20 participants. This nondenominational, ecumenical course is based on curriculum developed through the Church Health Center (CHC) /International Parish Nurse Resource Center (IPNRC). The Wyoming Health Council is an affiliate of the CHC/IPNRC. THE COURSE WILL COVER: Unit I: Spirituality  History & Philosophy  Prayer  Self-Care  Healing & Wholeness

COST: The fee for this course is $385.00. A $50.00 deposit is required with the registration form and will be deducted from the course fee. A payment schedule for the remaining fee is available. Scholarships for RN’s residing in Laramie County are available through a grant provided by Cheyenne Regional Medical Center*. Contact the Wyoming Health Council for details. The course fee includes online access, books, handouts, resources, and the two-day retreat. Lodging will be provided for out-of-town nurses.

Unit IV: Community  Assessment  Accessing Resources  Advocacy  Care Coordination

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: All participants must have access to a computer with internet connection. Participants are requested to have their minister/faith community leader sign the registration form to assure support by the congregation’s leadership. In compliance with the Scope and Standards of Practice, a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse is required.

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS: A certificate of completion will be provided to participants. Nursing CEUs will be offered through Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. It is recommend for Nurses outside of Wyoming to check with their State Board of Nursing for CEU approval. WHEN/WHERE: The course is taught over a four month period by online delivery (WebEx) from 6:30 to 8:30pm MST, on Monday evenings starting February 10 – April 28 (no class

the week of April 14 for Holy Week and April 28 is reserved as snow/make-up day) and concludes with a retreat in Cheyenne, WY, beginning the evening of Thursday, May 1 through Saturday, May 3, 2014.
