Notes/Quotes/Video From Today’s Coverage Below are select quotes from FOX Sports analysts and contributors during Thursday’s telecast: FOX Sports lead golf analyst Paul Azinger on defending U.S. Open champion Jordan Spieth: “He’s got a lot of heart. He’s got the guts of a burglar and the heart of Mother Teresa. He’s such a good guy. He behaves properly. It was once said of Tiger Woods, I think Geoff Ogilvy said it, ‘He has the worst temper on the tour, but he controls it the best.’ Spieth’s got a little fire in his belly, too, but he controls it really nicely.” *See additional Azinger CLIP HERE FOX Sports contributor Jaime Diaz, who spoke to the swing coach for early leader Andrew Landry: “His coach is Chuck Cook, from Austin, near where Andrew lives. Andrew is a very good driver of the golf ball, [but has been] a relatively poor iron player. Chuck says that he has an opento-shut club-face release, which sounds technical. Basically, he’s very good at reading the ball straight but not good for distance control. Chuck describes him as having kind of a ‘little-man complex,’ as he is a competitive, athletic guy who really wants to prove it and likes these situations. The tougher the course, the better – that’s kind of his mentality.” Longtime Oakmont head professional and FOX Sports contributor Bob Ford discusses Angel Cabrera’s 2007 U.S. Open win at Oakmont with a score of five-over par: “Curtis [Strange] called me and said, ‘Bob, why was the winning score so high [at the U.S. Open] in 2007 -- five over, and all the prior championships were under par?’ They took away the backboards, and now behind the greens, it's like shooting hoops without a backboard. It really got hard.” FOX Sports course design expert Gil Hanse weighed in on how today’s weather conditions will affect the course on Friday: “It sounds like a lot, but that's not a devastating amount. This golf course has seen a lot more rain than that. John Zimmer (Oakmont Country Club superintendent) and his crew, he’s got 140 volunteers here working on this golf course, most of whom are golf course superintendents in their own right. So, we will see all of the professionalism at work as they will be working late into the night. As far as the greens are concerned, eventually they'll get the speeds back. I think the desired combination of speed and firmness -that's probably gone. I don't think we'll see them be as hard and as fast as they can be. With regards to the bunkers, we saw some photos of the drainage. That’s one of the great things – there are drains in them. I don't know about the fairway, whether they'll get mown tonight or first thing in the morning. The rough will be difficult for them to get into because it's going to be soft out there, but I think, probably from the members’ standpoint, they would be happy if the rough is long and lush and wet for the week.”
