Small Firm Big Impact Jane and Michael moved twenty‐eight years ago for the quality of life they could have in Beaufort compared to the rat race of Washington, DC. This move influenced the philosophy of their firm. Frederick + Frederick Architects believe that we all should be connected with the land and that we should make time to enjoy that connection. To that end, we have office Friday fun activities to get out and enjoy the lowcountry.

Frederick + Frederick Architects believe that we should strive for design excellence in all projects, large and small. Frederick + Frederick Architects believe that we should contribute to our profession, including supporting our employees in attending conventions, paying for Architectural Registration Exams, registration, AIA dues, NCARB fees, and 100 % of health insurance for employees and their families. Frederick + Frederick Architects believe that we should contribute to society and provide opportunities for each employee to volunteer on company time.

Firm Culture A well managed firm can make exemplary buildings while maintaining a life/work balance. We work in an intimate open office with all of us working together in one room, each bringing special strengths to our projects. Michael is the lead designer, Jane is the managing partner and head of marketing, Tom is our constructability and detailing expert, Benjie is our technology whiz, Angie is our client relations specialist and our office manager Jessica keeps everything running smoothly. We work hard but also allow time to enjoy each other’s company. We celebrate birthdays with home made goodies. On Friday afternoons we unwind from the workweek by volunteering, playing badminton, watching I Look Up movies, visiting local exhibits or other fun activities. Our most recent kick is the game, “Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes”
Firm Culture Educating our potential clients and existing clients is consistent with our firm philosophy. We have a series of resources on our website for people looking to understand the home design and construction process. They can be found here. The video Benjie made on the architectural process can be found here. Once we are working with clients we use a variety of tools to communicate our design intentions. Michael watercolors our initial sketch designs. We create our construction documents in Revit and Benjie adapts our Revit models into Virtual Reality experiences for our clients. We also create Photoshop renderings to help explain the design in context.

Closer to home, the entire office spent a Friday afternoon cleaning up the hurricane debris on the Spanish Moss Trail. We also clean up for the open land trust and have picked up trash for Beaufort County Keep America Beautiful for over 20 years.
