French Seam Pillowcase Fabric Requirements: Body – 3/4 yd Cuff – 1/3 yd Trim insert – 1/8 yd

Cut body of case 26 ½” long and full width of fabric. Cut cuff 10 ½” long and full width of fabric. Cut trim insert 3 ½” long and full width of fabric. Press the trim insert in half lengthwise, wrong sides together, and set aside. Lay out the cuff piece, RIGHT SIDE UP. Place the folded 3 ½” trim strip on top of the cuff piece, raw edges to the top. Line pieces up along the top. Place the body part, right side down on top of the cuff and trim pieces. Line up across top. Put a few pins to hold in place. Roll up the body part, starting at the bottom. Roll almost to the top edge – about 2” from top is good. Bring the bottom of the cuff up over the body and line the edge up along the top. Pin through all the layers along the top edge. Sew a ½” seam all along the pinned top edge. Reach into the tube you have created and pull the case out! (If you got it right, you can shout for joy!) Press the pillow case, fold in half, RIGHT SIDES OUT. Cut off the selvedge and square it up. Stitch a 1/8” seam along the cut side and bottom of case. Start at the cuff end to make sure it is even. Press sewn sides. Turn the case INSIDE OUT and stitch a ¼” seam over the 18” seam that you just sewed. This makes a French seam and hides the raw edges. Turn the case right side out and press.
