3. Sta y - s t i t c h E d g e s : S i n c e t h e e d g e s o f t he blocks a re o n t h e b i a s , s t a y - s t i t c h a s c a n t 1/4“ from e a c h e d g e w i t h a m e d i u m - l o n g s t i t c h. Check that e a c h b l o c k i s s q u a re a n d t h a t t h e e d ges aren’t stretching before sewing the blocks together.

4. Ass e m b l e B l o c k s : S e w b l o c k s t o g e t h e r according to Diagram A. Before sewing blocks together, align t h e m u l t i p l e s e a m s a l o n g e a c h b l o c k edge and be sure that you’ve rotated the blocks correctly to cre a t e t h e p a t t e r n s h o w n . 5. Ass e m b l e Q u i l t B a c k : C u t o r p i e c e t o g ether a quilt back to measure 52“ x 52” (4“ wider and 4” longer t h a n t h e q u i l t t o p ) . 6. Ma k e Q u i l t ‘ S a n d w i c h ’ : W i t h t h e r i g h t side down, lay your quilt back onto a lar ge, flat sur face. Smoot h o u t t h e b a c k i n g , a n d s e c u re i t . ( I spread mine out on the floor and tape the edges down with maskin g t a p e . ) N e x t , o n t o p o f y o u r s e c u red quilt back, spread out the batting. W ith the right side up, cente r y o u r q u i l t to p a b o v e t h e b a t t i n g a nd quilt back. Starting at the center and moving outward, hand- b a s t e o r s a f e t y - p i n y o u r q u i l t ‘ s a n d wich’ together through all layers. Finally, hand-baste around the pe r i m e t e r o f t h e q u i l t t o p t h ro u g h a l l l ayers, a scant 1/4” from the edge. 7. Fin i s h Q u i l t : H a n d - q u i l t , m a c h i n e - q u i l t , or tie the quilt as you like. Trim of f excess batting and quilt back. F i n i s h e d g e s w i t h a c o n t i n u o u s b i n d ing or a ruf fle, as desired. Carefully trim loose threads and remov e e x p o s e d s t a y - s t i t c h i n g .
