Last Week: Congratulations to our fantastic Under 9 Chess Team who took part in a local Chess Jamboree last Wednesday “We played three matches. There were 8 people from each team and there were 16 schools; there were 128 children playing chess in a big hall. We took our time and didn’t rush our moves. We practised between matches. Some matches were quick and some were really long- there were no clocks to end the matches. The adult British Chess Champion Jonathan Hawkins was there as well. We won nearly all of our matches (20 out of 24 points) and came joint first! We all got a water bottle and biscuits after the second round. Thank you to Mr Fleetwood for coaching us, to our parents for taking us and to Rimon School for hosting us.” Report from Elliot and Elijah

This week (14th March): Healthy Schools Week “This week has been Healthy Schools Week at Brookland and we have had a very active week. We had ‘Skip 2B Fit’ and all the children concentrated on their PB (Personal Best). Luca from 3FH commented “This was my favourite part of the week and it was my first chance to skip.” David from 4G said “We did loads of activities and there wasn’t a single bad moment.” Year 4 did a ‘Go Noodle’ keep fit session that comprised of Zumba, First Fitness (A hard core fitness session) and Kidz Bop. They showed their moves and got fit all at the same time, so did their teachers. Charlie B from 4G said “Go Noodle helps you get fit and it refreshes your brain during lessons. It’s great.” Enea from 4G describes, “Making smoothies was great fun and also really tasty.” The children have also had the opportunity to design their own sports activity and one activity will be chosen for the Brookland Activity Day next term. We must say a big thank you to Mr Emmett for this amazingly active week.” By 4G Thank you very much to Mr Emmett and his Healthy School Week team for a fabulous focus week. Congratulations to Mr Greenhalgh and Tallulah-Belle the top staff and pupil scorers for the skipping challenge and well done everyone on such an active and heathy week.

Also this week 5G led a lovely sharing assembly about Hinduism and the festival of Holi. 6S gave us an entertaining and imaginative Best of British Class Assembly. Great acting, costumes, singing, power point and super dance moves. Well-done 6S and Miss Silberstein. Good luck and congratulations to all our 189 runners who will be completing their half marathon run on Sunday at Wembley. Thank you to all the staff and parents who will be accompanying them.

Promoting Walking to School Since Brookland Junior School has a Gold Travel Plan, we were given the opportunity to bid for additional funding to promote sustainable travel to school. Miss Davies has put in a successful bid and we are now using the additional funds to put in new lighting along the path across the field and up towards Christ College Academy which should make it safer and more inviting to walk to school this way. Have you considered park and stride from this side of the school?

Can you help? Year 4 are planning henna tattoos as part of their RE topic in the last week of this term, (Week of 28 th March). If you might be able to help with this project, please could you contact Mr Greenhouse. Thank you

New traffic cameras to monitor school zig zags. Please see attached flyer from Barnet about the installation of mobile cameras at 30 schools across the borough from March. Mrs Lake would like to remind year 6 parents about sending back forms for Whitby.
