TYMBERWOOD ACADEMY NEWSLETTER FRIDAY 27TH MAY 2016

Tymberwood Academy

@tymberwood

We have once again had a very busy term at Tymberwood with the children getting involved and succeeding in so many fun activities and tournaments. We expect Term 6 to be just as busy and would like to wish everyone well during their week off. It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Miss Turner. We would like to take this opportunity of wishing her well in her new job and to thank her for being a fabulous receptionist/secretary. At the same time we would like to welcome Miss Foster. I hope you will all remember that as a new member of the Admin Team there is a lot to learn, but with the continued support of Mrs Cook & Mrs Deamer it won’t be long before Miss Foster finds her feet - please bear with us. We also sadly said goodbye to Ms Jack (TA - King-Smith) last Friday who worked at Tymberwood for 23 years and we would like to wish her well on her move to Scotland.

Year 6 Apprentice fair – 27th May 2016 th

Year 6 held their Apprentice Fair today Friday 27 May. Throughout the week, they have worked as mini companies to devise a project to raise money for the school. They designed, created and marketed products to sell to children and parents: mocktail drinks, cakes, biscuits, sweet kebabs, bookmarks, glitter pencils, play dough, loom bands and chocolate bananas and fairground games. Plus, they have organised a range of fairground games with exciting prizes! Also, Splat the Teacher returned due to popular demand, much to the teachers' dismay! A big thank you goes to all of those who have supported the Year 6s who have worked so incredibly hard on their projects. Watch this space for the grand total next term!

Year 4 – Sports It has been a busy term sports-wise for Year 4. We have entered 3 tournaments organised by Take Pride, competing against other schools from Gravesham and Dartford. The first, a Futsal tournament, took place on a hot afternoon at Gravesend Rugby Club. Our squad of 4 boys and 4 girls were brilliant and represented the school exceptionally well. Joseph was voted the Boy Player of the Tournament for his amazing feats in goal. The second followed very swiftly (the next morning!) and a squad of 10 girls and boys returned to Gravesend Rugby Club to take part in the Kent Qualifiers for Trigolf. Again, they were amazing, showing skills and team spirit aplenty. They finished 2nd overall, and were extremely unlucky to not go on to represent Gravesend in the Kent finals. Last week, 12 Year 4s took part in the Gravesham Sports hall Athletics tournament at Legends Sports Centre. Each child had to take part in 3 running events and 3 field events. Each member of the squad showed great determination to do well and, as always, represented Tymberwood exceptionally well. A special mention should go to Ellie Smith who stepped in at the very last minute, due to illness of another child and was amazing! Term 6 brings more tournaments for Tymberwood, and a chance to show our skill and sportsmanship.

Gardening Club

Year 5 – Outer Space Year 5 have been very busy learning about outer space. They have written stories and drawn various pictures of space over the past few weeks and received a challenge to make their own spaceship built from Lego! They started off by designing their spaceship and choosing what colour lego to use and their results were absolutely fantastic.

This term our Gardening Club have worked hard to bring the school garden back to life. They have been doing general tidying of the garden and are in the process of growing carrots, chillies, peppers, runner beans, peas, pumpkins, wild flowers, radishes, lettuces, sweetcorn, tomatoes and spinach! We look forward to watching them grow!

Kingswood 16th-20th May 2016 Last week, some of our Year 6 pupils were lucky enough to spend a week at Kingswood Activity Centre in Ashford. Despite a daily 07:10 breakfast call, all of those involved had an amazing week. Our days were filled with challenging but exciting activities. We conquered the climbing wall, overcame the abseiling drop, survived the leap of faith, swung through the jungle vines, dared to ride the 3G swing, and beat the heights of Jacob's ladder. All of our Year 6s (and the adults, may I add!) challenged themselves so well and achieved so much more than anyone expected. Centre staff even commented on the impeccable behaviour and outstanding teamwork our children showed. After 5 days of fun, non-stop singing and Mr. Smith’s boot camps, we returned home on Friday ready for a well-earned break. All of the staff would like to say a big thank you to the pupils for making the week so enjoyable.
