Our Annual General Meeting (or AGM) is taking place at the HSL on Wednesday 8 November. Naturally we hope to see you at the AGM. At this meeting the School Board, Advisory Council and the MT will inform you of the developments this past year in terms of policy, organization and finance. Prior to this AGM the Learning Support Team will talk about the Learning Support program at the HSL while at the same time there will be an information session about Dutch as a second language. There will also be time to ask school related questions. In this 'Q&A'-session you may ask your questions, which will then be addressed by the school's MT, Board and AR. At the end of the evening we will have a drink together. This morning we were treated to a presentation by our groups 1/2A at the assembly. The children enthusiastically explored the school rule ‘I am careful with my and other people's belongings' with a number of slides representing their own class situation. We ended the assembly with a beautiful song. At the HSL a good social environment and maximum educational achievement go hand in hand. Our ambition is that students are happy to learn and come to school. As a school we highly value the creation of the best possible living and working climate.

The HSL offers a child friendly, safe and structured environment where children are challenged to learn with goal orientation and to work together. Education is considered a joint responsibility of the school and of the parents. In order to be able to offer a solid educational program it is important for teachers, parents and students to be open and honest in their communications and trust each other. To stimulate this, the HSL drafted school rules as the foundation of a solid and safe pedagogical climate. The students, the team members and the parents are all expected to comply with this code of conduct, to feel responsible for it and to hold one another accountable. All this and more is described in the HSL Code of Conduct. This document was extensively discussed with the School Board and AR and can be found on the HSL website. The group 8 children will partake in the annual 'Bukit Tinggi Friendship Day' this Tuesday 8 November. With kind regards, Meino Meines, HSL Principal

At the HSL Dutch is mainly the language of instruction. The extent of comprehension and use of the Dutch language are directly related to the degree of difficulty a student will have to understand these instructions and to communicate with classmates. The student feels competent and develops the skills to actively follow the educational program. Good development of the Dutch language is therefore essential for your son or daughter. At the HSL there are students whose native tongue is not Dutch. We also have children in our school whose native language is Dutch but whose daily surroundings are not Dutch spoken. Both factors influence the child's language aptitude. Because it is very important to the HSL to give all the children the chance to master the Dutch language, we are initiating a special information evening to elaborate on the special importance of language aptitude. Further, we would like to share what the HSL is doing to stimulate the Dutch language skills. We would also like to provide parents with very hands-on advice on what you as parents can do to simulate Dutch language development. Additionally there will be opportunity to answer any questions parents may have. The (English spoken!) information evening is taking place on Wednesday 8 November. This is the same evening the AGM will take place. The Dutch as second language information evening starts at 7 pm, prior to the AGM which starts at 8 pm. Time

Sinterklaas and his entourage arrive in Singapore on Saturday 18 November at 10.00 am at the ‘Singapore River Cruise - Bayfront South Jetty’ (at Marina Bay Sands Mall). Consecutively there is a festive program at the Hollandse Club (HC). Please note: Unfortunately it will be next to impossible to park there. Therefore we strongly advise all to take public transport or use one of the Hollandse Club buses. You may purchase return bus tickets for transport between the Hollandse Club and ‘Singapore River Cruise Bayfront South Jetty’ at the Hollandse Club. The Sinterklaas theme brings on surprises developments in our school every single year. It won't be any different this year. Your children will surely keep you informed. On Friday 1 December 2017 we will welcome Sint and his 'Pieten' to the HSL. At 8.30 am the procession will arrive through the gallery and go to the party tent on the big field by way of the stands. After a hearty welcome Sint will pay a visit to the classrooms of the Jip & Janneke and primary school children. Due to expected traffic congestion, we kindly request you to arrive by public transport or carpool, as parking will be limited. You are welcome to join us for the 8.30 to 9.15 am celebrations, upon which the children will return to their classrooms to continue the activities without parents.
