FULTON COUNTY SAFE COMMUNITIES

Fulton County Safe Communities was created in 2012 through the Ohio Transportation Office of Safety grant to establish a partnership of individuals from law enforcement, local governments, schools, businesses, the health department, and community organizations, creating awareness and prevention of death and injuries caused by traffic crashes. Safe Communities works together with the community to promote traffic safety and program goals through activities including fatal crash reviews, statistical analysis, and increasing traffic safety countermeasures. During 2017, the Safe Communities Coalition reviewed nine fatal crashes that occurred in Fulton County. The coalition reviews each crash report on a quarterly basis to determine if there are any counter measures that can be done to make our Fulton County roads safer. Of the nine fatal crashes for 2017, 67%, or six out of the nine, were due to failure to yield. In each review, the coalition determined the importance of continued education regarding the hazards of distracted driving and also working with the County Engineers Office and ODOT to assure proper signage at intersections throughout the county.
