Future Education & Training Learning Target: This research project is designed to help you find appropriate education and training programs to realize your career goals.
Getting Logged In 1. Go to www.careercruising.com and enter your username (pekin) and password (highschool). 2. Next, log in to “My Plan.” Enter your username ( PCHS followed by your school username) and password (same as school password). Example: PCHSsmithjoe000 and a1b2c3d4 .
School Selector
Click the Education link in the top menu bar. Next click School Selector → Undergraduate Schools. Begin answering questions. Answer all nine pages of questions. Click Save to My Plan in the top right corner of the screen. ● Click through the tabs above your results. Look at your Close Matches too. You can edit your criteria in the Review My Criteria tab. ● Click on one of the schools in your Selector Results or Close Matches lists. Clicking will take you to the School Profile page . ● Click the blue bold titles on the left side of the screen to explore the school (Admissions, Student Life, Majors Offered, etc.). ● After browsing through the schools on your suggestion list, save schools you are interested in attending by clicking Save to My Plan located on the top right corner of the screen.
Career & Major Method Click the Careers link in the top menu bar. In the box beside Keyword Search , enter the name of the career that you are interested in pursuing ( e.g., nurse, welder , website designer, helicopter pilot ). Click on Search . Hint: If you are having trouble finding a career, use the Index, to search alphabetically, School Subject , 16 Career Clusters , or Industries . Once you have found a career that interests you, click on it. Click Save to My Plan . ● Click on the Education link on the left side of the page. Read the Education & Training section. ● Scroll down to the Related College Programs section. Select one of these program links to learn which schools offer education or training in that area (the one or two programs at the top are usually the most suitable preparation for the career). Hint: If you have selected a career that doesn’t have any related programs, you may wish to go back and select a different career. ● Click on the program name. You will see a list of colleges that offer this program/major in your state. Hint: You can also select a different state or region by clicking on the Add/Edit States button on the left side. ● Read through the list of schools and find one that you might be interested in attending. Click on the school’s name. Click Save to My Plan . Be encouraged to visit the school’s website or call for additional information.
Compare up to Three Schools Side‐by‐Side ● Click the My Plan tab the top left corner. Scroll down and click on My Saved Schools . ● Click on one of the schools then click on the arrows to the left of the blue ☆ Saved to My Plan button. Add up to three schools to compare them sideby side.
Next Steps: ● Meet admission reps here at PCHS! Ask the Counseling Office secretary for an appointment. ● Apply for 35 schools before November 15th of your senior year! Meet your counselor as you apply for posthigh school programs. ● Visit campus and spend the day on a campus tour, taking a class, and meeting instructors.
