Ganesh I V (Pabil). A F rench expedition led by M ichel F euillarade originally had nine members, including a photographer, but four climbers left the expedition in late September. The leader and three Sherpas tried to climb from Base Cam p to the southwest ridge but got only to 20,000 feet, having established Cam p I at 19,000 feet. T he summ it was made from Cam p I alpine-style with four bivouacs by Erik Decam p, G uy D ufour and A lain Richier, who reached the top on O ctober 11. They climbed via the south-southwest spur to the southeast ridge and south face. They descended the 1978 Japanese route. M ic h a e l
