Guidelines on Dropping Off and Picking Up
Arrival and pickup times are within 5 minutes of the preschool hours (9am11:30am and 12:30-3pm). If a child is left more than 10 minutes beyond these time limits with no arrangements made, a fee of $10.00 will be assessed when the child is picked up. The person dropping off your child will need to come into the preschool with the child and sign the child in on the sign-in sheet. This is for the safety of your child. The person picking up your child will need to come to the classroom and wait for staff to dismiss the class. NO CHILD WILL BE DISMISSED UNLESS AN AUTHORIZED ADULT IS PRESENT TO PICK HIM OR HER UP. The children will not be left without
direct transfer to an adult. It is the responsibility of the parents and/or caregivers to arrange transportation for children to and from preschool. If you need to pick up your child early, please inform the school office (531-2261) or the teacher and they will have your child ready at the appropriate time. Students will enter and exit the preschool from the north entrance. Parents/caregivers may park in the west circle drive and walk the students into and from the north entrance. IMPORTANT—If there is someone different picking up your child, then you must first notify the preschool staff. Staff will NOT release the child to someone if the staff has not been notified of the change. This is for your child’s protection.
IV.
Tuition—Fees—Absences
There is a non-refundable enrollment fee of $50 per child, per year, which is paid at the time of enrollment. Tuition:
Two day per week sessions (T/TH): $90 per month Three day per week sessions (MWF): $110 per month
Tuition can be paid in one lump sum or by monthly Automatic Withdrawal from a designated bank account. If monthly payments are selected, the withdrawal will occur on the 10th of each month, September-May. The preschool must be notified of predetermined extended absences. When your child is absent for even one day, please advise the school of the reason so we can keep accurate records. If you plan to remove your child from our school permanently, you must give us two (2) weeks’ notice. The preschool depends upon tuition for its operation and these rules are necessary to remain selfsupporting.
V.
Illnesses
If your child becomes ill while at preschool, we will contact you or the designated person on the enrollment form. If your child becomes ill with a contagious disease (i.e. chicken pox, strep throat, pink eye, head lice, etc.), even while away from school, we ask that you notify the school office and staff. We must notify the other preschool parents. We also must keep records of all absences and illnesses so we appreciate your cooperation with this. If your child is feverish or has any other noticeable symptoms, please do not send them to school! Your child must be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to school.
VI.
Special Weather Conditions, Early Dismissal, Cancellation
The preschool will follow the Renwick USD #267 decisions in regard to school closing and/or cancellation. If the weather turns bad after your child has arrived at school and you are concerned, you are welcome to pick them up early. If Garden Plain schools close early, the preschool will do the same. In such circumstances, the preschool staff will remain with your child until you arrive. We practice fire drills monthly and tornado drills 3x a year so your child will be prepared in case of emergency.
VII.
Communication
Phone messages will be checked at the end of the class period. If you have an emergency, please call the school office at 316-531-2261 and notify them of the emergency. All messages will be returned as soon as possible. You will receive newsletters at the beginning of each month. Please take the time to read them, as you will be notified of field trips, what your child is doing in class, snack schedules and important dates. We will also use email to communicate with parents as much as possible.
VIII.
Discipline Policy
All of the children are expected to follow the rules of the classroom and not be disruptive to the class. Acceptable behavior is encouraged by giving positive verbal rewards. This reinforces the child’s good feeling about his/her behavior and serves as an example to the other children to act in such a way as to receive this praise. Asking a child to stop and think about his/her unpleasant behavior enables that child to work on self-control. For a child who is not cooperating in a group listening situation, the child is seated by a teacher and reminded of acceptable behavior. Removal from the group for a period of time-out is the next step for a child who continually demonstrates unacceptable behavior. This time-out is not a punishment, but rather a time when the child may calm down, remember what behavior the teacher is asking for, and decide for him or herself when he/she is ready to join the group with appropriate behavior. The length of time for a time-out will be one minute for each year of age plus one minute. Corporal punishment is not an acceptable method of dealing with young children’s behavior. Children will not be hit, slapped, or spanked in any manner while attending preschool. If behavior problems persist, the parent will be asked to attend a conference with staff to help determine further action. If the child is unable to adapt to the classroom rules, then you may be asked to remove the child from the program. At all times, we will do our best to work with parents in a productive manner.
IX.
School Bag --- Comfortable Clothing
Please send a jacket or coat on cool/cold days as the students always like to go outside. Be sure that all jackets, coats, hats, gloves, etc., have your child’s name in them. Please dress your child in comfortable play clothes as they will be moving around both inside and outside. It is best to dress your child in play clothes as we use paint and other materials quite a bit.
X.
Toileting
All children attending preschool are expected to be fully potty trained and not wearing diapers or pull-ups. The children must be able to take care of their own bathroom needs. Due to policies and regulations, staff will not be able to wipe children after a bowel movement or change soiled pants. It is a wise idea to place an extra set of clothes in your child’s school bag. If a child has a urine accident, we will assist the child in changing clothes. However, if the child has reoccurring accidents, they may be dismissed from preschool until he/she is fully potty trained. Snaps and buttons are difficult – please keep practicing with your child.
XI.
Field Trips
Field trips are an important part of the learning for preschool children and are planned to supplement learning activities. Parents and grandparents are always welcome to attend. We do not expect parents to attend every fieldtrip. The preschool staff will always arrange for adequate adult supervision. We need permission slips for every trip. If your child does not return the signed permission slip, your child will not be allowed to attend the field trip. All of the children will be required to ride in a car seat or booster seat. You will be asked to bring your car seat/booster seat to the preschool for your child to use. If the car seat/booster seat is not provided, your child cannot attend the field trip. Because this is a special time for your child, it is appreciated that siblings do not go on these trips.
XII.
Treats—Parties—Snacks
Parties will be scheduled for the following: Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Easter. Please sign up to help with one. If you cannot attend, you could possibly send something (treats, crafts, or other items). Parents and
grandparents are welcome to attend the classroom parties. We ask that no siblings attend. The preschool will provide apple juice/water, cups and napkins daily for snack time. We are asking for volunteers to provide snacks. We are hoping that each parent will sign up for at least one snack period during the year. Please send snacks every day during the period you are signed up for. A reminder of the dates will be sent home, along with the number of students and any food allergies. Suggested snacks are cookies, cheese, fruit, small boxes of raisins, granola bars, vegetables and dip, snack mixes, fruit rollups, etc. Please do not send cupcakes.
XIII.
No Live Animals
We ask that no live animals be brought onto our school grounds and/or in our building. We have students that may be allergic and/or uncomfortable around live animals. Thank You for understanding.
