Student Services Orientation 2015 - Getting to St Andrews Please refer to the Orientation App or see the map at www.st-andrews.ac.uk/media/university/maps/wwwmap.pdf to locate your Halls of Residence in St Andrews. Arrivals Using St Andrews Direct 1. Transfers with St Andrews Direct should be booked in advance. You will be met by a St Andrews Direct team member at the airport (http://www.standrewsdirect.com/orientation.html). Walk-up transfers may be available on the day, but cannot be guaranteed. Daytime Arrival Using Public Transportation 1. Please make your way to the Airlink (Service 100) Shuttle Bus, which departs from directly outside Domestic Arrivals. You can buy tickets at the Airlink Kiosk, on board the bus, or in advance at the Lothian Buses website (http://lothianbuses.com/services/airlink). Your journey will take 30 minutes to Waverley Bridge in the city centre. Airlink buses run 24/7 and a single ticket costs £4.50. 2. On arriving at Waverley Bridge, proceed to the train station (as signposted) and board a train to Dundee, Aberdeen or Dyce. This train will stop at Leuchars Railway Station. Train tickets can be purchased at the station’s ticket office or from a machine on the station concourse. 3. Alternatively, at the airport you can get a tram to Haymarket Railway Station. Trams run every 8-12 minutes and take 35 minutes. You can then board a train to Dundee, Aberdeen or Dyce, which will also stop at Leuchars Railway Station. 4. From Leuchars Railway Station please make your way to either a Number 99 Bus (runs every 15 minutes) to travel to St Andrews Bus Station. From here you can get into a taxi to your Halls of Residence. Alternatively you may wish to get a taxi straight from the Railway Station to your Halls of Residence; taxis are often waiting at the station during busy periods, but may not be there very early in the morning or late at night. Night-time Arrival 1. If you have arrived so late that you cannot get the last train (check timetable for details http://www.scotrail.co.uk/) our suggestion is that you stay in Edinburgh overnight either at one of the airport hotels or in the city centre. To reach the city centre, take the Airlink Shuttle Bus which departs from outside Domestic Arrivals and runs 24/7. The journey will take 30 minutes and a single ticket costs £4.50. You can buy tickets at the Airlink Kiosk, on board the bus, or in advance at the Lothian Buses website (http://lothianbuses.com/services/airlink). 2. Please make your way to the Airport Information Desk located in International Arrivals Hall for local accommodation. There are two airport hotels: Holiday Inn Express and the Hilton Hotel. 3. Alternatively you could take a taxi from the airport to your Halls of Residence. The cost is approximately £80. 4. PLEASE NOTE: Not all Halls of Residences offer 24hr access. If you are arriving late (after 11pm) please contact Student Services in advance and we will notify your hall of your predicted arrival time.
