One circular needle size US 8 (5mm), 20"/51cm long or size to obtain gauge. Set of 4 double pointed needles (dpns) size US 8 (5mm). Stitch markers. 4 long stitch holders. 4 short stitch holders. Yarn needle
GAUGE In Stockinette stitch, 18 sts and 24 rows = 4"/10cm Remember to check gauge for best results! NOTE Body and sleeves are knit separately to underarm, then joined for yoke.
INSTRUCTIONS BODY Using A and circular needle, CO 100 (108, 116) sts. Join in the round, being careful not to twist. Place marker for beg of round. Work around in k1, p1 rib for 1.5”/4cm. Change to Stockinette st (knit every round) and work until body measures 7 (8, 9)"/17.5 (20, 23)cm from CO. Cut A. Dividing round: Place 40 (44, 48) sts on long holder for front, 10 sts on short holder for underarm, 40 (44, 48) sts on long holder for back, 10 sts on short holder for underarm and set aside. SLEEVES Using A and dpns, CO 28 (28, 32) sts. Join in the round, being careful not to twist. Place marker for beg of round. Work around in k1, p1 rib for 1.5”/4 cm. Change to Stockinette st (knit every round), inc 1 st at beg and end of every 6th round 6 (7, 8) times—40 (42, 48) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 9 (10, 11)”/23 (25.5, 28)cm from beg or desired length to underarm. Place first 5 sts and last 5 sts of last round on short holder (10 underarm sts). Place remaining 30 (32, 38) sleeve sts on long holder. Work 2nd sleeve. YOKE Joining round: Using circular needle, k40 (44, 48) back sts, place marker, k30 (32, 38) first sleeve sts, place marker, k40 (44, 48) front sts, place marker, k30 (32, 38) second sleeve sts, place different color marker for beg of round—140 (152, 172) sts. For size 18 months and 4 years only: Dec round: *Knit to marker, remove marker, k2tog, replace marker; repeat from * around—136 (152, 168) sts. Place marker for beg of round. For all sizes: Follow 8-st repeat Fair Isle chart, Rounds 1-15 (18, 20) working dec round on last round as follows: Dec round: *K2, 2tog; repeat from * around—102 (114, 126) sts. Follow 6-st repeat Fair Isle chart for next 5 rounds working dec round on last round as follows: Dec round: *K1, k2tog; repeat from * around—68 (76, 84) sts. Fasten off A and B. Continue with C only in Stockinette st until yoke measures 4.5 (5.5, 6)”/11 (14, 15)cm. Dec round: *K2, k2tog; repeat from * around—51 (57, 63) sts. Knit 1 round, decreasing 1 st—50 (58, 64) sts. Work around in k1, p1 rib for 1”/2.5cm for neckband. BO loosely in rib. FINISHING Graft underarm sts. Block garment. Using yarn needle, weave in ends.
