GLENWOOD ATHLETIC BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM The Glenwood Athletic Boosters will be awarding scholarships to senior student-athletes. Each scholarship will be worth $1,000, and applications may be picked up from the Glenwood High School Guidance Office or downloaded from the GHS website athletic page. A $1,000 nonrenewable scholarship will be awarded to at least one male and at least one female senior graduating student athletes at the Scholarship Awards Banquet held at the end of the school year. Eligibility is based on Booster Club Guidelines which are explained below. Please note that athletes who have received a full athletic scholarship to any college or university will not be eligible to receive one of these scholarships, and scholarship funds can only be used for tuition to the college, university, technical and vocational school or institutes that your senior studentathlete will be enrolling in. Purpose: The purpose of the Glenwood Athletic Booster Club Scholarship is to recognize athletic achievement, promote good sportsmanship, encourage high scholastic achievement among all athletes at Glenwood High School, and to assist with the costs of higher education. A $1,000 scholarship may be awarded to one male student-athlete and one female student-athlete annually.
Eligibility: Any graduating senior of Glenwood High School who has participated in organized, inter-school athletics for at least two full years will be eligible for this scholarship. The applicant shall have been accepted (or have made application and is pending) to a recognized institution of higher learning. This scholarship is subject to NCAA rules and regulations.
Eligibility Criteria: Athletic Participation: Applicant must be a 12th grade student in good-standing at Glenwood High School who has participated as an athlete in at least one high school sport for a minimum of two full seasons. The applicant’s record will be verified by the Athletic Director’s office by the Scholarship Selection Committee after submission of the application. Good Sportsmanship & Character: Applicant must exemplify good sportsmanship, including attitude toward team members, coaches, equipment, officials and spectators. Applicant must have a good disciplinary record. Academic Achievement: The applicant must have a minimum cumulative high school grade point average unweighted (through the end of the current third quarter) of 2.5. The applicant’s GPA will be verified by his/her guidance counselor after submission of the application.
Post-Secondary Education – The applicant must be accepted by a post-secondary institution and plan to enroll in the fall following graduation. Post-secondary institutions include, but are not limited to, colleges, universities, and technical and vocational schools. Financial Need: Financial need is not a consideration. Booster Club Membership: Applicant’s parent/guardian must be a current active member of the Glenwood Athletic Booster Club. Application Form – Applicants must complete and submit the application on the prescribed form in a sealed envelope to the GHS Guidance Office or mail to GHS-Athletic Booster Scholarship, 1501 E. Plummer Boulevard, Chatham, Illinois 62629. High School grade point average or class rank is not a factor for receiving the Glenwood Athletic Booster Club Scholarships.
Application Requirements: Once the "eligible" applicant has received the Glenwood Athletic Booster Club Scholarship Application, he/ she must complete the application process as listed below and mail to GHSAthletic Booster Scholarship, 1501 E. Plummer Boulevard, Chatham, Illinois 62629 or deliver to the GHS Guidance Office on or before the deadline. The Applicant is responsible for giving the Coach’s Recommendation form to the coach of his/her choice. The Scholarship Committee will verify GPA requirements with GHS Guidance Office.
Payment of Scholarship: A one-time payment of $1,000 will be made to the registrar of the chosen institution of higher learning in one complete installment at the beginning of the school year.
Selection Committee: The Board of the Glenwood Athletic Booster Club will select a “Selection Committee” which will be comprised of three members. The Athletic Director at the Glenwood High School shall automatically be a member of the Selection Committee along with two other members of the Glenwood Athletic Booster Club. Members of the Selection Committee may not have a senior student-athlete who is applying for a scholarship. Coaches or faculty members of Glenwood High School may be consulted for information regarding individual applicants; they will NOT, however, have any vote in the selection process.
Deadline: The deadline to turn in the Glenwood Athletic Booster Club Scholarship Application is Friday, April 21, 2017. Applications turned in after this date will not be considered.
