Principal’s Message Proficiency in Literacy

At SES we strive for all students to be proficient in literacy. All staff including the building level administrators, classroom teachers, reading interventionists, activity teachers, and paraprofessionals (tutors) work hard to help each child succeed in reading, writing, and spelling. Every month teachers meet with a Response to Intervention team to provide support for students who are struggling in literacy and math. Interventions are planned for those students who are needing extra support. The extra support could be Reading Recovery or a short 30 minute intervention with a trained paraprofessional. The scores provided below show the student growth of proficiency from August to November. In first and second grade, students who are proficient are reading on or above grade level. In kindergarten, students who are proficient can identify all letters and sounds. Look for Math updates in January.
