INDIANA UNIVERSITY SPORTS MEDICINE EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN INDIANA UNIVERSITY GOLF COURSE Emergency Personnel: Certified athletic trainer(s) and athletic training student(s) are on call for practice and competition. Physician(s) are on call for competition. Emergency Communication: Cellular phone. Backup landlines are located at the Indiana University Golf Course Clubhouse at (812) 855-7543 and at the Cecil W. Weathers Golf Team Center at (812) 855-7543.
Emergency Equipment: An AED is located in the Indiana University Golf Course Clubhouse Pro Shop. An additional AED is located in the Cecil W. Weathers Golf Team Center. Splints, first aid supplies, and medical kits are located with the sports medicine team.
Venue Directions: The Indiana University Golf Course is located on the Indiana 45/46 Bypass. Emergency vehicles should access the golf course via the frontage road just off of the Indiana 45/46 Bypass. Emergency Team Personnel will be at the Indiana University Golf Course Club House to direct EMS to emergency scene.
Roles within the Emergency Team (First Responders) • • • •
Establish scene safety and immediate care of athlete Activation of Emergency Medical System (EMS) Emergency equipment retrieval Direction of EMS to scene
Activating the EMS System Making the Call: • • •
Staff athletic trainer or designate will stay with athlete and provide emergency care Athletic training student or other team personnel will meet EMS at appropriate entrance and direct to scene Using a cellular phone, call 911
Providing Information:
Name, address (location) of caller/emergency, Number of athletes, Nature of injury or condition(s) Current care being given or initiated by first responder Specific directions to locate the emergency scene Other information as requested by dispatcher o Leave callback number o Let dispatcher hang up first Continued Care: • Stabilize and monitor athlete as needed • Notify the team physician and/or staff athletic trainer • Designate someone to keep a record of events and vital information • • • • •
