Good Yom Tov & Good Shabbos! Bnai Jacob Shaarei Zion Congregation HALACHA OF THE WEEK: A FEATURE OF THE BJSZ DAILY HALACHA SHIUR:
MINCHA EREV PESACH & THE RECITATION OF SEDER KORBAN PESACH The time for daily Mincha corresponds to the time the daily afternoon offering may be brought, i.e. one half hour after midday until the sun goes down. Nevertheless, as the offering was regularly brought in the latter part of the afternoon, i.e. post three and a half hours after midday, the Shulchan Aruch (233:1) rules that it is ideal to daven Mincha in the latter part of the afternoon, Mincha Ketana. Nevertheless, the early Mincha - Mincha Gedola - is appropriate for one who is going to work or travel and needs to daven early to assure that he will daven Mincha before dark, or that he will be able to daven with a Minyan. Significant authorities (Shaarei Tshuva 458:1, Kaf HaChayim, R.Y.M. Tukitzinski) suggested that on Erev Pesach it would be ideal to daven Mincha early. Firstly, because the numerous tasks before us on this busy day make it wise to address the Mincha obligation early, before it is too late. Secondly, because on Erev Pesach the daily offering itself was brought on the early side, in order to give extra time for everyone to offer the Korban Pesach, which needed to be brought afetr the daily offering. Finally, davening early offers the opportunity to fulfill the important custom of reciting the order of the Korban Pesach after Mincha and during the afternoon, during the time slot that it was and will be offered when we have the privilege to do so. To accommodate and encourage this custom, BJSZ will have two Minyanim for Mincha on Erev Pesach. We will have a Minyan at 7:35 pm, followed immediately by a brief Dvar Torah and Maariv. We will also have an early Minyan at 1:55 pm, following which we will recite the Seder Korban Pesach (Order of the Offering of the Pesach). Those who wish to recite the Seder Korban Pesach can find it at the beginning of many Hagaddos, as well as in many Siddurim, such as the Hebrew Artscroll Siddur, p. 312.
