Grade Weighting Policy Grade weighting will be provided only for those grades earned in IB courses. Those students studying an honors class in grades nine or ten will reap the rewards of grade weighting by being more prepared to study and succeed in IB courses in eleventh and twelfth grades. The report card and transcript will reflect the actual grade earned in the course; when a student’s semester grade-point average (GPA) and cumulative GPA are calculated, the calculations will include the grade weighting increases below. To ensure GPA clarity, each student’s transcript will note whether the student is an IB Diploma Candidate or not. Individual IB subject candidates IB Year 1 courses - Students will receive a 5-point increase to the grade for each course. IB Year 2 courses - Students will receive a 5-point increase to the grade for each Standard Level course and a 10-point increase for each Higher Level course. These apply to students studying an IB course in any grade level. IB Diploma Program (IBDP) candidates IB Year 1 courses - Students will receive a 5-point increase to the grade for each course, including Theory of Knowledge (TOK). IB Year 2 courses - Students will receive a 10-point increase to the grade for each course. IBDP candidates receive the 10-point increase in all of their IB Year 2 courses to recognize the additional commitment and challenge in completing all the components of the IBDP in addition to studying the normally scheduled courses.
