May 2017 Dear Parents/Guardians Welcome to Hitchin Boys’ School I am writing to you because you have accepted a place at Hitchin Boys’ School for your son starting in September 2017. I would like to welcome you to our community. We are really looking forward to getting to know your boys and helping them become the best young men they can be. We have set up a special transition area on the school’s Learning Platform where Year 6 students can find out more about Hitchin Boys’ School. This section will also include copies of letters for parents and documents included in the General Information Pack which will be given out to parents in July. The ‘New Year 7 Students’ area can be reached from the front page of the main school website, www.hbs.herts.sch.uk. As part of our programme of welcoming new boys and you their parents into the School, we are holding a special ‘taster’ day for the boys on Thursday, 13th July when they will attend here instead of their primary school and should wear their primary school uniform. The day will run from 9.15 a.m. to 3 p.m., during which boys will meet their new Form Tutor, and the rest of their form and will learn as much as they can about their new school. Boys may either purchase a meal in our canteen using cash (the standard meal is £2.40 but you may feel able to allow your son a little more on this occasion to give him more freedom of choice) or bring a packed lunch. This is entirely a matter for you. Boys who receive a free meal at their primary school will be given a free meal here on 13th July. All parents are invited to drop into our Woodlands centre for a coffee morning being run by our Parents’ Society, please see details enclosed regarding this and other events they hold. Please return the tear-off slip below to our office by Monday 5th June if you wish the canteen to prepare a meal for your son on his day visit. Payment is made when he takes his lunch, not with this order. Following your son’s visit, we invite you to come to School on Thursday, 13th July at 6:45 p.m. for an introductory evening to hear more information about the School and to meet your son’s Tutor. The first part of the programme takes place in the School Hall. Later, there will be a chance to meet other ‘new’ parents, as well as teachers and prefects, over coffee and biscuits in our Sixth Form Centre. This evening is not intended for children. If you need to bring them, please make sure they have something to occupy them quietly. The evening will end around 8:45 p.m. During the evening, you will have an opportunity to buy items of stationery, books and uniform. Enclosed with this letter are an Ethnicity form and a Data Collection Sheet (2-sided) which we would like you to check, complete and change if needed. We also enclose a letter and consent form regarding the ‘Action Challenge Day’ on 22nd September. We would appreciate these being returned to us by Monday 5th June.
