All our staff are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people T:\Letters to Parents\Whole School Letters\Book Week\Book Week - letter with details for the week.docDear Parents/Carers 4 March, 2015 ‘Adventures in reading’ – Book Week 2015 As you know we are holding a book week at the end of term, from Monday 23 to Friday 27 March, and the theme this year is ‘Adventures in Reading’. All our events and visitors have kindly been sponsored by the SHA, so a huge ‘thank you’ to them in advance of this exciting week. Below is more detailed information about the programme of events and the vistors we will be having during the week. We have two authors visiting Green Street Green, David Lucas and James Campbell, who will be giving workshops to each year group. This year, both authors will be available to sign books, which you can purchase from them, after school in the small hall. These books will be sold aongside books from the Travelling Book Fair. David Lucas will be available after school on Monday, 23 March and James Campbell on Tuesday, 24 March. Please note that each author will only be able to sign copies of books purchased in school. In order to support them, we would like you to discuss the authors coming to school with the children beforehand, and for them to each bring in an item which relates to one of the authors' books. For example, on Monday 23 March, when David Lucas visits, Reception and KS1 children should bring in an item such as a pirate patch or skull and crossbones flag relating to David Lucas' book “The Skeleton Pirate.” On Tues 24 March, when James Campbell visits, KS2 children should bring in an item, for example, a small toy zebra or draw a zebra without stripes, which would relate to one of the books from James Campbell's Boyface series called "Boyface and the Quantum Chromatic Disruption Machine." If you are unfamiliar with these authors' books, the internet or local book shops are great places to look for ideas. You can also visit their respective websites: www.davidlucas.org.uk and www.thejamescampbell.com On Wednesday, 24 March, the Quantum Theatre Company will be following up on their performance to KS2 earlier this year with a presentation of ‘The Writing on the Wall’ to pupils in Reception and KS1. Children will be making origami books with Mr Abrahams, enjoying Poetry with Mrs Morgan, hearing Adventure stories with Mrs Bond and African Stories with Mrs Claridge. In addition, everyone will have a chance to share a book with other children across the school and to visit other classes to see what they have been working on. On Friday 20 March, your child(ren) will each receive a £1 World Book Day voucher. As always, these vouchers can be redeemed at the Travelling Book Fair in the small hall from Tuesday, 23 March. On Friday, 27 March, when school finishes at 12.45pm, the Book Fair will be in the large hall, where there will also be a display of work and artefacts the children have created over the week. Finally, this year, we will holding a Short Story Competition (details to follow). Pupils will be asked to write a short adventure story of no more than 500 words – inspired by the work they have done in book week. The competiton will open in book th week and the last date for entries to be submitted is Friday 17 April. Winners will receive a number of book related prizes and have their work displayed on the school website. We look forward to seeing you during Book Week and hope that you enjoy hearing what your children will tell you about the things thay have enjoyed each day. Yours sincerely

Mrs Glenda Piper & Mrs Sarah Morgan (Literacy Leaders)
