Gujarat Technological University Organizes Two Days Workshop on Patenting in Pharmaceuticals For Pharmacy Faculties of GTU On 3rd & 4th September, 2011 ABOUT THE PROGRAMME This is a unique workshop first organized by GTU for Pharmacy Faculty on the theme of Patents and IPR. India has become a favorable destination for Pharmaceutical MNCs after becoming a signatory of TRIPs Agreement. According to WIPO report (July-2008), India ranked 1st in the world in terms of growth of patent filing in Pharmaceutical sector. But out of this nearly 60 % patents filed by MNCs, 35 % filed by Indian companies and only 5 % filed by Indian Academia. So if we will not awake then MNCs will monopolize in our country. Therefore GTU has taken a step to sensitize Pharma-academicians to understand the concept of Patent & IPR, so that we can have our own technology for our country and also generate revenue from the research, which ultimately helps to drive “Knowledge economy” of the country.
