University of Guelph The University of Guelph was founded in 1964 with the amalgamation of Ontario Vetrinary College, Ontario Agricultural College and MacDonald Institute. It is a medium sized university with enrollment of over 20,000 undergraduate and graduate students and nearly 3000 faculty and staff.The campus sits on over 1,000 acres of land in the South end of the city, which includes the Arboretum, and Research Park off Stone Road. The University of Guelph is known for being one of the top comprehensive Universities in Canada as well as having an above average graduate rating and the best capus food services. Currently the Chancellor of the University is Pamela Wallin and the President is Alistaire Summerlee, who has held the position since 2003. Facilities Alumni Stadium The Guelph Gryphons Alumni Stadium was constructed in 1970 and is used primarily as the home field for the Football and Soccer teams. It is located on the corner of College Avenue and Powerhouse Lane, at the North/East end of campus, across the street from the Cutten Club. The facility is smoke free and is fully accessible. Alumni Stadium has a grass playing field surrounded by a 400m track. The facility has both home and visiting team rooms for football, equipment and training rooms, as well as coaches offices and referee rooms. Seating capacity is 5,100 and there are concession services at all Football and some Soccer games. The Press Box houses both home and away team staff as well as media, TV, radio, and Game Day operations. Alumni Stadium is the home of Gryphon Football and Soccer, but it also plays host to many other campus and community events including; Pep Rally, Relay for Life, Elementary and High School Track & Field meets and football games, playoff lacrosse and rugby as well as many other events.
WF Mitchell Athletic Centre The WF Mitchell Athletic Centre was first opened in 1957 when there were approximately 1,250 students on campus within the OAC, OVC, and MacDonald Institute programs. The original building consisted of a triple gym, an ice surface, and the 5 lane, 25 yard pool. It is located off of East Ring Road, at the North/East end of campus, across from the Gryphon Centre arena and East Residences. The facility is smoke free and is fully accessible. The Athletic Centre has gone through a number of renovations since it was first opened and now consists of the Main and Small gyms, previously the triple gym, the West gym, previously home to the ice surface, the Fitness Centre, 5,500 square feet of space with cardio and weight rooms overlooking the Main gym, and the Aquadome consisting of the original 25 yard pool, now the Red pool and the Gold The facility is also home to team change rooms, meeting rooms and offices for the Department of Athletics. The Main Gym within the Athletic Centre is home to the Gryphons Men and Women’s Basketball teams. Seating capacity is 2,200 and there are concession services at all games. The facility also houses Intramurals, city basketball championships, national wrestling tournaments and martial arts competitions. The West Gym within the Athletic Centre is home to the Gryphons Men and Women’s Volleyball teams. Seating capacity is 400. The facility also houses Intramurals, fitness and recreation classes and martial arts competitions.
Gryphon Centre The Guelph Gryphons Gryphon Centre was opened in January 1989 is home to the Men’s and Women’s Varsity Hockey teams. It is located across from the Athletic Centre on facility is smoke free and is fully accessible. The Gryphon Centre has a twin pad arena, Tim Hortons, Gryphs Sportshop, with skate sharpening, and Gryphs Restaurant. The Gold arena is an Olympic sized surface with a seating capacity of 1,400 and is the home ice of the hockey teams. The red arena is overlooked by Gryphs Restaurant and is primarily used for practices, intramurals and recreational skating. The building also has coaches and staff offices, team rooms, dressing rooms and a press box which overlooks both ice pads. The Press Box houses media, radio, and Game Day operations staff during varsity events. The Gryphon Centre is the home of Gryphon Hockey, but it also plays host to many other campus and community events including; Intramurals, Figure Skating and Recreational Skating, CANAM Hockey Camp, Ringette as well as Guelph Minor Hockey Tournaments.
Outdoor Fields The Guelph Gryphons currently play on many fields on the University o Guelph campus. The newest addition is Varsity Field, the Universities first synthetic playing surface. This field is home to Field Hockey, Rugby, Football practices, Intramurals and community events and is located on East Ring Road across from the Cutten Club. The natural grass Multi-purpose fields are home to Lacrosse and some Rugby, as well as intramurals and are located beside the Arboretum.

Game Day Information Tickets Tickets to all Gryphon Home games can purchased in person at the Gryphon Box Office, 7 days a week, over the phone by calling (519) 82GRYPH, or 24/7 online at www.boxoffice.athletics.uoguelph.ca. General group ticket inquires and can be emailed to
[email protected]. On game day the box office opens an hour before game time when the venue opens for spectators. Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Hockey and Soccer are the only ticketed sports, are others are free entrance.
Parking Event parking is available free on the weekends and evenings. Lots are listed in order of proximity to the Athletic Centre and moving towards the stadium: P12, P14, P15, P49, P7, P19, P17. Please see maps at back of package for campus parking map.
Washrooms All tickets events have permanent washroom facilities. If you are watching a field event, the closest washrooms are located in the Athletic Centre. There are also port-a-potty’s at all fields.
Concessions Football and Basketball have concession services at all games. Some Soccer, Hockay and Volleyball games have concessions as well. At hockey there is a Tim Horton’s and a sports bar in the Gryphon Centre.
