I
t’s a beautiful story, really. An ancient grain, woven into the annuals of time: from the garments of ancient Egypt to the palace linens of modern Europe. From surfboards to bicycle frames, flax fibers are both enduring and beautiful. Known as the “fiber of the future”, they provide an unlimited source material for building a sustainable future. Since 1858 the Libeco linen mill in the historic flax region of Flanders, Belgium has been making the world’s finest linens. Here, a perfect combination of soil and climate make the locally grown flax the best in the world, and an extraordinary quality is assured due to rigorous performance controls and meticulous finishing processes. Family owned for five generations, Libeco is Belgium’s oldest and largest linen mill, and one of the largest weaving companies in Europe. Generations of knowledgeable craftsmen and women yield their experienced touch
to all aspects of the manufacturing process – from sowing to harvesting, spinning yarn and weaving linen, to complex finishing for performance and quality. Committed to social and environmental responsibility, the Libeco linen mill has operated fully carbon-neutral since January 2013. In the same way the windy North Sea climate is ideal for growing flax, so too this salty breeze now powers the wind turbines bringing 100% of the electricity to Belgium’s largest linen producer since July 2015. From nature’s most ecological fiber comes the world’s finest linen, and we are honored to partner with a company who shares the same values for sustainability and production that we do. The desire to make fabrics that get the job done with aplomb. Hearty and hardy. Buttery, bright and soft. The love of natural fibers, saturated color, and the subtle interplay of warp and weft. The finest fibers and yarns – the kind that only get better with time. Adelene works directly with mills, both local and global, who value mindfulness, integrity and quality. And give thought and attention to every detail, handcrafting each design with pride, love and care in western North Carolina. Sturdy Girl and Sturdy Boy are their workhorses. Basics with heart. Everything else is designed to bring new possibilities and dimension. Urban or country. Traditional or classic. ith an entrepreneurial spirit and desire to reshape the way the world sees leather, a small startup begun in Lynchburg, Virginia after the Great Depression has evolved to one of the world’s premiere natural leather manufacturers. With experience from the leather footwear business, family members Moore & Giles began selling leather to the booming furniture industry in their neighboring state of North Carolina in 1933. Fast forward to the 21st century when Moore & Giles’ fashion-focused approach has made them a leader in the design industry by creating the most innovative and luxurious natural leathers. Desirable for their durability and comfort, we love the look of Moore & Giles leathers, hair on hide, and suedes throughout the Verellen Collection.
