H oly LENT

Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul. 3 John 1:2

On its surface, this text from 3 John may not seem much more than a simple greeting at the beginning of a letter, but on a deeper level, it speaks to a theme found throughout scripture: that health, both of body and soul, is desired for us, both by God and ourselves. Indeed, in the Gospel of John, Jesus tells his disciples that he came that we “may have life, and have it abundantly.” A key part of this abundant life is health – wellness of body, mind, spirit, and soul, so that we may fully live into the life that God has given us. Lent is a season that invites us to reexamine our relationship with God, both as individuals and as a community. This Lent, St. Luke’s as a parish will explore ways in which healthy living is part of our holy experience with God. As we encourage you to participate in these opportunities that will promote health of body, mind, and spirit, we do so remembering that such healthy living can empower us to fulfill God’s purpose for us – to love God, love one another, and love ourselves.
