Happy Holidays from the Muskies! Rockin’ Around the Sugar Cookies!
The Muskies had their annual Christmas party at Coach Dreyer’s house. This year they started new traditions that will be carried on throughout future classes. The Muskies got together before the Christmas party to shop for the family that they are sponsoring this Christmas. Then they got together and wrapped all of their gifts for the kids. After wrapping, they got to decorate sugar cookies and compete in a sugar cookie decorating contest. The judges, comprised of the coaches, decided on three finalists. From this, the winning cookie was a softball with LC written in the middle from freshman Marisa Sloan-Mercado. “It was a great experience where our team got to decorate cookies like one big happy family does for the holidays,” said freshman Carly Brault. “We also got to wrap gifts for a family in need, and it just shows how much our team really cares for others and is willing to put others first.”
Our Newest Muskies! December shaped up to be the start of many new traditions as the Muskies tackled another first by adopting a family for Christmas. The family included six children-five girls and one boy, all under the age of 11-as well as their two loving parents. The family showed up to Lakeland on Dec. 11 and brought the best gift anyone could have asked for-themselves. Their eyes lit up as they opened all of these wonderful gifts from the Muskies. This night was truly one that the Muskies will remember forever. The fun doesn’t stop here, as this family is going to be coming to games as well as keeping in contact with the team throughout the rest of the season and hopefully for years to come! Freshman Angela Tribuzio:“To be given an opportunity to give back to a family in need was truly amazing! Being able to meet the family and watch as the kids opened their gifts really touched my heart. The smiles on their faces is something that I will never forget. We got to hang out with them, learn their likes and dislikes, hear them sing and play violin. I loved every minute of it and I would do it again in a heartbeat!” Sophomore Mikayla Hilton: ”Last night was such an eye opening experience. It’s crazy how you can take something so little like opening presents on Christmas for granted in life, when there is a family out there like this one who is struggling. These kids are so happy with how little they have, and for us to be able to give them a Christmas that they have always dreamed of was amazing. The smiles of these kids when they opened their gifts will be something that I will always remember.” Freshman Gretchen Gaertner: “It was a great experience! They are a wonderful family and it’s so sad to hear they’re going through struggles right now, but making the parents and their kids happy made me really happy. I had a smile on my face the whole time they were here and an even bigger smile when they were opening their gifts! That was an experience I will never forget.”

Alumni Spotlight
Tiffany Diven - Class of 2013 Where are you residing now? Currently my husband, son, and I live in Sheboygan. What is your profession? I teach English, broadcasting, yearbook, newspaper, and am chief operator of 91.7 FM (Wisconsin’s first and one of its only high school radio stations) at Sheboygan North High School. What positions did you play while you were here? I played third base. What was your favorite memory playing softball here at Lakeland? The softball program at LC not only gave me the best memories of college, but more importantly the best lifelong lessons and friendships that will last eternity. Do you see any differences in how the game has developed since you played? The game itself hasn’t changed much, but the new facilities that the current Muskies get to play on and the new uniforms are an improvement that was not only necessary, but improves the aesthetics immensely.

What’s one piece of advice you would tell the current Muskies that represent your alma mater?. The advice I would tell all current Muskies is to never take out a private student loan, cherish the time that college offers because the real world can get ugly. Realize that your professors, coaches, and the staff of LC are there to enable your success. And network yourself while staying true to who you are. Being a Muskie contains a pride that will hit you once the cornfield disappears in the background, but just like the corn that grows surrounding the school, LC grew all of us to be amazing, educated human beings. What was your major? I majored in English and secondary education. What was your favorite class here at LC? I could never narrow it down to one. LC offers professors that genuinely care about your well being. With the rapport established and expectations that are clearly defined, the classes offered by the hand-picked professors all offer a unique aspect that will flood your memories with happiness upon reflection.
