Vacation watches are available for residents who contribute to patrol contracts Residents of neighborhoods that contract with Precinct 1 for extra patrols benefit from faster response times and more proactive, positive relationships with our deputies. And those in patrol contract areas who contribute money to the contract get extra perks, including vacation watches. While you are away for a week or two, deputies make sure your home and property are safe. To sign up for a vacation watch, please provide us with information by going online
at least two weeks before you will leave town: http://pct1constable.net/sign-up/ vacation-watch/ Your information is relayed to our patrol division, which then alerts the contract deputies who patrol your neighborhood. Constable Rosen asks the deputies to get out of their patrol cars and walk the perimeter of your dwelling two times during each of their eight-hour shifts to make sure nothing is amiss while you are up the road, up in a plane or down on a beach for a few weeks.

[email protected] Of course if a deputy spots something suspicious during a vacation watch, he or she can, among other things, reach you or the emergency contact person whose name and number you provided to us when you filled out the form. We do ask that you give us a finite date for your return because we cannot continue to make these security checks on an open-ended basis. Nor can we enter your home to check on it from the inside. If you have an alarm system and/or lighting on a timer, please make sure they are in active mode while you are gone. Parking a vehicle in your driveway can sometimes help deter a potential burglar, too.
TWO-WAY COMMUNICATION WITH CONSTABLE PRECINCT 1 ON SOCIAL MEDIA It’s good employee conduct to keep your supervisor up to date on your work. And because we work for the public, we keep the boss – that’s you – up to date almost daily on social media, where anyone can see it. This newsletter is one of our latest tools for keeping the public informed, but for the last year we have been using Facebook, Twitter and Nextdoor.com for two-way conversations with our constituents. On Facebook, our page is Harris County Precinct 1 Constable. There you will find public safety tips, news about our staff’s activities in our sprawling precinct, recurring features such as Furrever Fridays that feature animals available for adoption at the Houston SPCA, a few light-hearted pieces, and more. Facebook provides the opportunity for viewers to post relevant comments on our posts. On Twitter, find us at @Pct1Constable. Twitter gives us the chance to post bits of information from moment to moment, but we also use it to draw attention to some of our more popular Facebook posts. Twitter lets you write back, too. In Precinct 1, tens of thousands of residents subscribe to Nextdoor.com, a free service that allows neighbors to post information to every subscriber in their immediate area. The posts often focus on topics such as garage sales and lost and found pets. But the network also allows us to post public safety information such as warnings about recent crime activity in certain neighborhoods, or invitations to our public events. Not only can neighbors write back to us, but they can also have a private dialogue with Constable Rosen through this system. Our next social media frontier is Instagram, where we will post photos of public safety activity along with informative captions. Our account is harris_county_pct1constable. Also, our web site, http:// pct1constable.net/, is the place to go for basic information about our agency.
Furrever Fridays The Houston SPCA and Precinct 1 have a special relationship, and every other Friday, the Precinct 1 Facebook Page highlights this bond through Furrever Fridays. The series of posts features deputies alongside animals the Houston SPCA has available for adoption. We find that these posts are some of our most viewed and most liked posts on Facebook. Our officers in uniform with puppies, kittens, and rabbits, to name a few, provide a touching, entertaining contrast for all. In fact, every animal that has been showcased has later been adopted. Furrever Fridays are dedicated to bringing attention to our role in the fight against animal abuse and neglect throughout Harris County. We are constantly in communication with the Houston SPCA so that our investigators can respond to animal abuse, neglect complaints, and related law enforcement issues. If you are not a Furrever Fridays follower, we hope you will become one soon.
