Hawaiian Applique Supply List Learn the basics of Hawaiian Appliqué. We will be covering the “ins” and “outs” of traditional hand appliqué. We will be discussing how Hawaiian Appliqué is different from other methods of appliqué. You can try out the technique without investing in a large project. Hand appliqué projects are great to take with you without a lot of extra equipment. First Class: You will cut out and baste your motif Second Class: You will learn needle turn hand appliqué Supplies to bring to the first class: □ One 15 “ x 15” Kona Cotton background fabric o a fat quarter will work □ One 15” x 15” Kona Cotton contrasting top fabric o a fat quarter will work □ Sharp Sewing Scissors o The Kai brand works well. o You need to be able to cut through 8 layers of fabric. o I have some pairs of scissors you can try out to see what works for you. □ Glasshead straight pins (red or white head pins) □ Pin Cushion □ Thread for basting (contrasting to top fabric) □ Thread to match the top fabric (50 wt or 60 wt) □ Clover Hawaiian Appliqué Needle set (Art No. 2011) □ Clover Needle Threader □ Sharp Tipped Embroidery Scissors □ Thimble for your needle pushing finger □ Thread conditioner (Bees wax, Thread Heaven, or Thread Magic) □ A couple of round toothpicks □ Personal Light (preferably something battery powered) □ An Empty Fabric Bolt or some cardboard
