Executive Director, Kentucky Office of Drug Control Policy

Van Ingram joined the Office of Drug Control Policy in November 2004, shortly after it was created with the mission of coordinating Kentucky’s substance abuse efforts in enforcement, treatment and prevention/education. He served with the

Maysville Kentucky Police Department for more than 23 years, the last six as Chief of Police. He is a former President of the Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police, and was named “Kentucky Chief of the Year” in 2001. He is a former recipient of the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to Law Enforcement, as well as the Melvin Shein Award for distinguished service to Kentucky law enforcement. Ingram is a certified law enforcement instructor and has trained officers across the state on a variety of topics, including community oriented policing, case management, and “Kentucky Substance Abuse Issues” for Chiefs, Sheriff’s and command staff.

At the close of the presentation each participant will be able to:

1. List two statistics which describe the extent of the opioid overdose epidemic in Central Kentucky. 2. Identify two measures to prevent opioid overdose. 3. Discuss two actions in emergency response to an opioid overdose including administration of Narcan. 4. Discuss the challenges faced by the interprofessional ED, ICU and community teams when caring for overdose survivors. 5. Describe the care provided to overdose survivors and their family members in the ED, ICU and community. 6. Be able to explain current measures under way to combat the opioid epidemic. 7. Be able to explain the current threat of fentanyl. 8. Be able to explain at least one “harm reduction model.”

Attendance Requirement: Attendees must stay for the entire program and complete the written evaluation to be awarded 4 KBN continuing education contact hours, which will be awarded by Midway University.
