How to Host a Healthy Food Drive in Your Community

TOOLKIT:

Your SuperFood Drive will help to ensure that all people, regardless of income level, have access to healthy food! 1. CHOOSE A LOCATION TO HOST THE DRIVE. Your SuperFood Drive could be hosted at your place of worship, workplace, home, school, club, co-hosted at your local grocery store, or as an event entrance incentive (ie: bring 5 healthy non-perishables and receive discount concert tickets). 2. SET A TIME FRAME. It could last several weeks or just one day at an event. 3. CONTACT YOUR LOCAL FOOD PANTRY. The food bank or pantry you’d like to benefit from your SuperFood Drive may be able to drop off and pick up collection barrels or boxes. Find a food bank or pantry near you by doing a simple Internet search or going to www.feedingamerica.org/foodbank-results.aspx 4. SPREAD THE WORD. MARKET YOUR SUPERFOOD DRIVE. Pass out fliers explaining the importance of nutritious food to the health of your neighbors in need (see Health and Hunger: Quick Facts Sheet in this Toolkit for details). This information helps the donors understand how their gift of healthy food makes a big difference. Ask people to donate the food bank’s most needed healthy food items:
