The seaweed harvesters of coastal Maine were the unlikely inspiration for Ocean Elements products. During a free melanoma screening for Maine fishermen, company co-founder J. Michael Taylor, MD, MPH noticed that seaweed harvesters had surprisingly smooth, well-hydrated hands compared to fishermen and lobstermen. This was confirmed by the wives of the seaweed harvesters and reinforced by farmers of Laminaria digitata seaweed. These observations confirmed research already begun by Michael into seaweed and other sea life that demonstrated sea life to be rich in natural SPF boosters, antioxidants and anti-inflammatories, as well as minerals and vitamins that provide superior skin benefits.
