Please check the main school newsletter for details on Parent Consultation appointments! Learning Update– Dinosaurs This week the children listened to a story called Tom and the Dinosaurs in which Tom has to rescue Katy and the dinosaurs before a volcano erupts. The children then did some problem solving and decided how they would rescue the dinosaurs. They made plans and wrote their ideas down. In maths the children played dinosaur race and worked on recognising numbers to 20. We’ve worked hard in phonics whole class and small group and learnt the sounds ch, sh and th alongside practising blending and segmenting. In cookery we made egg and cress sandwiches! The children have also been painting with brushes, rollers and stamps. In the mornings we practise name writing every day and we’ve had some lovely stories and songs at home time to finish the day well. Well done everyone! Junk Modelling Resources Next week we’re going to make junk model dinosaurs. If you have any small items for junk modelling (boxes, tubes, tubs, bottle tops etc) please could you send them in with your child? Mrs McCarron is booked in for some transition days with the children soon. We’ve been talking about the changeover with the children to get them used to the idea. Miss Scott will be with the class until the end of the academic year.

What has happened in Reception Class this week?
The Wizard of Oz was fantastic to watch on Tuesday morning. Thank you so much to the Friends of the school who arranged this for the children. When I asked Jay how the pantomime was he replied ‘It was WONDERFUL!’ What a treat!
We have started to include some extra group time into the weekly timetable. However more often than not the children ask: “when can we play?” Through their play, Reception class are solving problems, using their imaginations, using language and developing ideas and interests! This is why we still make plenty of time for Plan, Do, Review sessions, in which the children choose their own activities.
